Chapter 1: Page 38
Of course the two Tesque masters have to get fancy on us. This is now a matter of pride!
And this week we have yet another piece of fanart from SaraaLuna! Here’s what she wrote about this piece:
“I thought all the Felis art in the prologue was interesting, and after all of the notes on how the Tamian and other races had vastly different scripts/language/architecture/basically everything, this came out. I’m not sure what legitimate Canid art looks like– and I hope to see a piece or two when everyone gets their tails over to Aisling– but imitating Spartan style was the closest thing I could think of for them. I can’t wait to see some actual Canid in chapter 2, though. C:”
Thanks for the lovely art! :D
Oooh, so we’re going all ninja now with the balancing one-footed on poles and on strings. I approve :)
Come on, Quin! *Waves pom poms*
I’m loving Quindon’s poses on the first and third panels, slightly hunched with his arms out for balance and his toes spread over the post in the first one, and crouching on both hind paws with his tail out in the third.
Uh-oh, Dakkan, better let go of that rope and get out of the way.
I’m liking the direction this fight is going; you gotta have semi-aerial combat of some sort with squirrels. It’s also amusing (and a little threatening) to see hefty Crim go bounding around on the pole-tops as easily as the smaller Quinlan.
Good thing he’s a squirrel, walking on ropes!
*insert Mario jumping noises*
Do the earrings of the Tamirian warriors have anything to do with rank?
Hi Jake! The earrings are merely a personal fashion choice. Crim probably should have removed his own before sparring with Quinlan for safety reasons, but I don’t think he anticipated such a strong performance from his opponent :)
I surmise Crim isn’t going to have quite a bad case of ear infection if he doesn’t wise up. Thanks for the answer to an otherwise superficial question.
I meant is going to.
And now the fight moves up on the poles and ropes surrounding the arena (wrestling and boxing fans will have to forgive me for not using the proper term – I tried to find it but couldn’t, even though I’m sure it’s something really obvious). This page contains what may be my favourite Crim moment so far: the image of that big, burly squirrel deftly jumping onto and gripping the top of that pole with all four of his paws! That’s something you wouldn’t expect, and it’s another reminder of the animalistic nature and abilities of our characters.
One thing I’m not so fond of is the image of Quin in the first panel, though – another one of those odd facial expressions that occasionally pop up. He looks a bit like a pug, with his nose turned up like that. Still, it is impressive for him to remains standing on the rope like that – I guess the Tamian lifestyle and biology does have its advantages.
The fight cannot last much longer now. Let’s see where it leads…
