Chapter 2: Page 1
Welcome back, everyone! Though I guess technically we’re the ones coming back – you’ve all been very patient this last month as we’ve worked on getting Chapter 2 up to speed, and now we can begin with our 2-page launch weekend spectacular!
Page 1 takes us back to Quinlan, Dakkan, and Kenosh as they make their way… well, northward! The forests of the Western Deep are massive and treacherous, but what lies beyond is the stuff of legend. The journey has just begun, and we’re excited to see where it takes us.
We’ll be posting another page tomorrow to get the chapter rolling, and then we’ll be continuing to post new pages every Saturday thereafter.
Remember, if you have any fan-works you’d like to share with us, please send them our way! We’d love to see them and share them with the rest of the Western Deep audience! You can send stuff to us at thewesterndeep (@) gmail.com!
i imagine morgan freeman narrating this intro – “and so goes our quest of adventure and mystery let us see what the road has in stored for our young adventures!
Ah, traveling montages and beautifully colored pages. You gotta love ’em.
Woah this is atmospheric!
THIS LIGHTING <3
Man I love crepuscular rays used in lighting, they always makes the scene feel more fantastical. But somehow I imagined them traveling with Quinlan flitting in the trees ahead of others, with what him being a scout and bit of a loner. I guess these parts of the woods don’t have dangerous animals in them?
He might be a rear guard of sorts, keeping an eye out.
So is Dakkan the same sort of squeamish guy you portray him as on DA? Like he doesn’t like blood and that’s why he uses a staff?
And so we get to the first real page of Chapter 2. And all I can say is: wow… If there were ever any doubt about Rachel’s ability to draw landscapes, those doubts are utterly dispelled by this page. I have even more good things to say about the next one so I won’t spend too much time on this, but the artwork really is stunning. The use of light shining down through the trees (crepuscular rays? Is that what they’re called?) is particularly amazing. We’ll see more of that next time.
Anyway, it seems our heroes are finally on their way to meet up with their Canid allies!
Oh, look! It’s the Lord of the Rings movies all over again! :)
