Chapter 2: Page 16
(Hey, two years and three months late is better than never, right? X) Hope you enjoy the completed page — and expect future pages to be updated in the coming weeks as Rachel continues getting them cleaned up for the book submission!)
New York ComicCon was, as always, a ton of fun! Rachel and I got to geek out over all sorts of things on the show floor and in various panels, and we also had an opportunity to pass around a few of the postcards we mentioned last week. Nothing to report for now aside from that, so enjoy the page this week as we wrap up this first act of Chapter 2!
As always, should you have any fanart you’d like to share with us and have it displayed alongside a new page, drop us an e-mail at thewesterndeep (at) gmail (dot) com!
Heh – thought it had suddenly turned monochrome winter in the lands!
Sorry to hear about Rach’s Con Crud (only ever caught that once m’self in ten AC’s since 2004, so I’ve been lucky, but I can empathize from that one time) and hope she feels better soon! So glad you both had such a geeky-wonderful time at CC, and may you both get to do it many times more in the years ahead!
Back to this page – looks really cool that way! Maybe this can go into the “supplemental materials” page you two are working on adding to the site. You ARE working on that, aren’t you? ;-)
Dang winter storms, can sneak up on ya.
I love that last panel. Open plains are gorgeous, especially when you’re taking a break from forest, and you know lots of ice and mountains are coming up ahead. I have to wonder what Quin was going to ask Dakkan, though I think I have an inkling. Perhaps an inquiry about a certain delayed slap? Ah well; we’ll see later!
this joke is going to follow me around until I die and/or beat someone to death with a salmon.
For the sake of Kenosh’s fragile sanity, *I kid* please don’t give Dakkan any ideas.
Neat. When I first saw this page, I wondered why it was uncolored. Now I know why. But it still looks fabulous, even without color!
I like the way the page looks in greyscale- it really contributes to the mood. And the emotional intensity on this page is breathtaking. Clearly, the tension between Dakkan and Kenosh didn’t appear overnight. Very interested to see how this affects the mission.
I’m sorry to hear Rachel’s under the weather, glad you had fun at Comic-Con! Best wishes!
I find it curious that Kenosh apologizes to Quinlan, but not Dakkan. He seems more ashamed of Quin witnessing their fight than the fight itself.
He and Dakkan have probably fought over this so many times that they’ve reached the conclusion they’re not going to ever apologize over it.
Does the city of Lutra have a river running through it? If so, what is it’s name?
Be assured that there is a reason I ask this question.
Hi Trees! No, there isn’t a river that runs through Lutra. The South Verodun River passes somewhat closely to Lutra on its eastern side, however.
Thanks.
Wait – I just realized something, going back and looking at the first panel again.
Look at the motion lines above Kenosh’s tail …
Is he … *twerking* Dak?
Well, that might account for Quin’s expression …
The moment when you realize your old dad can get down better than you can.
…I did not believe my earlier comment about “seeing the old guy bust a move” pages back would be taken in quite this direction.
Hmm… Like most others here I was quite surprised by the sudden greyscale. It’s still here by the time of this comment. But poor Kobb! Con Cruds can not be fun… I hope you feel better right now.
It seems that Dak is still embittered by the recent events, even more so since his father came close to hitting him. Let’s hope he doesn’t let it poison his ability to work together with Quin and his dad now that teamwork is so crucial.
Hee, I never thought about it but, yeah… Kenosh twerking his son? That is both hilarious and wrong on so many levels…
Yeah, it sucks being swamped. It’ll get done… but only as soon as I can get to it. XP
Hi, do you feel better now (year later)? :)
Do you plan to colour white pages (there have been few of them in comic)?
Hi Zlorf — we’ve been trying to keep up with the regular pages every week, and that’s made going back for edits and recolors pretty difficult. After the remaining pages for chapter 2 are done, Rachel will look at the unfinished pages and any remaining edits we may want to make.
Thanks for info! Don’t haste.
I assume that you’re going to publish Book 2 after chapter 2 is finished, aren’t you? :)
And, of course, I’d like to say that Beyond the Western Deep is delightful. I’ve found it via link at Lackadaisy and then read it whole one evening. Impressive art style and remarkable story setting – I just can’t stop thinking of it since last two days… Keep on with your amazing comic!
