Chapter 2: Page 8
C’mon, Quin! What are you waiting for!? Dakkan’s in a tough spot, no doubt about it! Not much to say this week – but things are definitely heating up!

Tsk, tsk, the bandits see three bedrolls but only two persons – they should be on lookout for Kenosh or they will be facing a nasty surprise.
Where was he keeping that spear?
Woops. Turns out it was leaning against a tree in the background two pages ago. Well played Rachel and Alex. Well played.
Either Quin’s going to shoot him between the eyes, or the guy’s going to get a sword through the back when Kenosh wakes up.
I suspect Kenosh is already awake and no longer in the camp.
I think Tronn is right; the bandits would not be so fixated on Dakkan and Quin if they new Kenosh Neeson was lurking somewhere…waiting for the right moment.
We shall see.
“Kenosh Neeson!” Hee!
Is Quin letting up on the bowstring in panel five?
That was the intention, yes. Rather resentfully. X)
Up in northern Aisling with no supplies; that’s a great way to start the journey into Canid territory! Assuming that Kenosh isn’t about to pull something off. We await your move, grumpy one. Also, I really love the Felis’ eyes, especially with the different shades of green in them.
I have a distinct feeling that pick-up line has been used by Ermehn more than once.
I wonder if it has ever worked? It seems like a good one.
Knowing Ermehn? It probably has.
Now that you mentioned the eyes, I went back and checked: all the other characters have white circles with black dots for eyes – they’re a comic representation of eyes, much like a smiley is a representation of a face. The felis is the first one who has, well, eye-like eyes – they have color, shading, and surface reflection. Curious.
Felis, Vulpin, and Canid do have colored-tinted eyes – check out the first few prologue pages! Felis eyes range from anywhere from yellow to green, Vulpin from yellow to copper, and Canid are pretty consistently yellow/gold. I couldn’t do the same for Lutren, Ermehn, Polcan, and Tamian because real otter/ermine/polecat/squirrel eyes are pretty dark and it wouldn’t translate well. Hence the more “standard” eyes.
I try to keep it from feeling like too much of a style shift by treating the eyes about the same in all cases, except for what I finally color the “whites.” The closeup is to blame for the increased detail on this page… though going back, I suddenly realize that I hadn’t been giving the Felis slit eyes in those first pages, but I did in this scene. I wonder which set of pages I should change…?
To be honest, I like the slit eyes. It just emphasizes the feline part of the Felis.
Ah, so they do. Also, I was making a generalization with “circles for eyes” – I do appreciate how Ermehn are consistently drawn with oblong eyes, it gives them character.
Slitted eyes are a common visual tag for a character that is untrustworthy, shifty, or evil (i.e. cat-like), so you should make the changes after a careful deliberation.
Keenosh is one hell of a sleeper…
Things are indeed heating up, as it seems the bandits have the upper hand (or paw) now, with Dak hostage and Quin reluctantly letting up on the bowstring…
Not much to say myself. The observation on how the eyes of the different species are portrayed was quite enlightening though (I have to find some other word for these things than “interesting) – it’s good that you go with what looks coolest, rather than what would be most “true-to-life”.
And man, it seems the other commenters spot things I never would’ve, like with that spear against the tree two pages ago. We’ll be seeing more of that next time.
Do NOT TOUCH DAKKAn !

dOOM Will bEfAlL yOu!
I infer that more than 10 seconds have passed between the squirrel getting into shooting position and the spear showing up. The squirrel really should’ve shot right away. Even if he had shot to disable, rather than kill, it would have taken the initiative away from the robbers.
