Chapter 3: Page 10
Some nice guesses last week as to who was on the other side of that blade! I’m sure our long-time readers can discern who this is, though :) This particular character was hinted at nearly a full three years ago, and received a proper name-drop three months later. How time flies!
I’ll save more insight for next week! This week has been proper crazy, what with the move happening on Wednesday and me now crashing at my sister’s house near Boston until my flight out to Seattle next week. Fortunately the next few days will be a bit more relaxing, and I’m looking forward to working on some long-term Western Deep stuff (including a new Choose Your Own Adventure) in the interim!
For guest art this week, I wanted to share this hilarious piece from SaraaLuna! As some readers may remember, Saraa wrote a fun piece of fan-fiction that fleshed out a possible backstory for the omega-caste Canid sitting in the back of the Land’s End Tavern in chapter one. Here we see that character engaging in a bit of holiday-related tomfoolery:
Yeah, looks like he isn’t too thrilled about getting saddled with babysitting duty. The life of a conscript is a hard one, man. And don’t worry, those stickers probably don’t stick very well to fur. Probably.
It’s Toschie-Tosch!!! *Gets stabbed repeatedly by a rampaging mob of howling Canid.*
Finally, after many a long, speculative guess as to his role and motives, the brother of the late general Clovis appears! And I get the feeling that he’ll turn out to be by far the more dangerous of the two.
Poor Quin . . .
*Alone Dago (My character) stay on the back of that crowd, with a small banner with the words “Canid Murederes!!! Away with General Tosch and his brother body!!!! “; chanting and shouting, unable to break through the crowd of howling and jumping with delight Canid soldiers;
Dago.: Away with the Canid, Canid Killer Racists!!! Buuuuuu!!! *Skreaming Alone*
*From the crowd of Soldiers goes two powerful soldiers with dark glasses, higher from Dago and slowly go to him*
*Dago slowly stops skreaming them are closer and closer*
Canid S1.: *coughs, take off his dark glasses* Huh. Youuu…., mumbled something?
*Pierced him with his cold eyes*
Dago.: *Dago retracts slowly banner behind his back* N-noooo… No. ^^; I only… *Gulp*
Canid S2: *shoot his fingers in fists* you only what?…
Dago.: …IonlychantedinhonorofourbeloveddeargoodrightbeautifullsexyGeneralTosch andhisdivinesorelymissedourbelovedgreatgoodfatherRIPGeneralClovis^^; *Shaking Salutes and begins to chant with a crowd* ToschToschToschTosch ^^; …
;-;
Clovis may be Freezer…but Tosch will always be Cooler.
That…That was bad was it? I’m sorry. Anyway OH YEAH Tosch is in da house baby! and he totally looks not pleased. Here’s hoping that perhaps Lady Canid will come in and vouch for their innocence….if at all…
Also it’s great seeing good ol’ Erenus Saraa! I wonder what his hideous sweater reads? Something about eggnogs?
“Eggnog up here”
I think.
You would be correct.
I’d imagine he won’t be too happy that his brother got killed…
will we finally get to see what he looks like there is one question where is Dakkan?
and i love the wolfkid he’s cute the adult however is a bit annoyed by the child it is awesome art.
Dakkan is busy right now.
No No No, this is too mild torture for such a “traitor and villain: what is Dakkan, and too mild for torturer and the genius of evil which is General Tosch -_- … This tourture is the most genius! Muahaha -> https://youtu.be/4gsWDbudnoc?t=379
Since I don’t have a proper comment brewed yet, have this.
You won all internet Sara XDDDD
Perfect, Saraa. Absolutely perfect.
Really, every Canid solider, no matter their rank, should have that comment emblazoned on his or her breastplate.
Indeed Fourth, Indeed :3
Good to see Quin coming fully back to his full Quin-ness … sliced-short ear tuft and all! That’s, like, the quintessential Quin expression there in the second panel. (Or should that be “Quin-tessential?”)
And even though we’ve now only seen Tosch for exactly one panel, something about his mien and bearing here suggests he might be more … reasonable than Clovis? Or even-tempered, or thoughtful, or whatever you want to call him … which might make him easier to deal with, or could just as easily make him an even more dangerous adversary than the over-the-top Clovis. We shall just have to wait and see.
I’m afraid that the word you’re looking for is ‘callous’. Poor Quin, he just can’t catch a break!
Clovis had his ever-shifting emotions. A very passionate, hot-and-cold type.
Tosch, therefore, is likely to be the cool and analytical type, which will make him the more dangerous of the two by far.
Wow, awesome! Love the long sword transitioning from one POV to another! And we finally get to see Clovis’s brother! He looks the older of the two, is that right?
And thank you, Highwing! I never noticed that one of Quin’s ear tufts is shorter than the other. Is there a story to how that happened? I’m curious now!
Have a good move, Sir Alex! Well, as good a move as a move can be! :)
Well, it wasn’t when the comic started. Happened during the battle, up on the rooftop, I believe. Reread Chapter Two carefully, and you should be able to find the exact moment when Quin becomes eartuft-lopsided.
That’s really cool! I never noticed that! I have my copy of it handy, and am looking for it right now!
Wow, that’s so awesome! Me and my friend, Aravis of Calormen, were flipping through and saw it. It happened during the battle inside their “guest” quarters, page 65. But on the rooftop fight, it seemed to switch to his other ear and then, later, back again. You were very perceptive to have seen it and looked for it throughout.
We finally get to see Tosch. Yay..? (A spear pokes me from behind) I mean, Yay! Tosch is here!
Anyways, to quote a friend: “don’t hurt the poor cinnamon roll!”
Aww poor Quin… May the gods have mercy and the plot lighten up for you
Tosch:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T1yHo2oAzk4
Salmon Party: “Yay?” *Spear pokes again.* “Er, yay!”
Hahahaha XD Oh my Gosh ^^; Ufff… That was really funny ^^; – But….
…But in this point I see What is a tragedy for Dakkan, when Canid, and for example General Tosch or RIP General Clovis, which he saw them as a pattern, and the great warriors and politicians who fight and defence us befor Barbaric and wild Ermehn Barbarians, this whole Canid ideological and propaganda in which he grew up, all these ideas, propaganda and lies of Canid that he imbibed from his childhood; not only that that night the whole his world has ceased to exist, he saw his father’s betrayal, Great blodbath, lots of blood and bodies, wounding Quinlan, now those Canid whom he considered almost equal to the gods (perhaps not so but they were for him almost idols, important guests) will be either his brutally interrogate or on the principle of psychological intimidation will interrogate and beat to blood Quinlan on his eyes; showing what a repair he believed and who you really are Canid – this is according to me the worst thing in all of this…
Yay, he’s as fluffy as his brother. I have a good feeling about this character!
I think he may even be fluffier than his brother! I bet hugging him is like hugging a giant marshmallow!
As is law, morality in the BTWD-verse is determined by fluffiness and level of poof when hugged. Thus, none of the races have done any harm. Ever. In fact, the Canid are true bastions of kindness.
The real threat here are the ostriches.
Clovis was a marshmallow.
Tosch is a marshmallow infused with bitter cocoa powder.
“Fluffy” ^^;

merch idea: Tosch plushes
Now you both guys won Internet XDDDDDDDDDDD
I want it, tbh.
I wanna it too *-* (Tfu, Tosh – I wanna DAKKAN plush :D ^^ )
You heard them , Alex and Rachel: Wolf soldier plushies!
Those eyebag-like lines on his face and his chubby head make me think more a mafia don than grizzled war veteran.
I’m gonna call him the Wolfather from now on, okay?
Woooah :D It Sounds fantastic sillyzealot :D “Wolffather” ^^ :D Hehe :D which in brief is “WF” – what in Polish language this brief mean “PE” – Physycal Education in school – so if he is a general, like his RIP Brother General Clovis, I think that he learn How to fight and be health good muscular Canid solider, many many generations of fanatical youth Canid soliders <3 <3 <3
Thesillyzealot – you are genius.
It’s even worse than I thought. :0 As with many people before me, I am happy that this guy is fluffy just like his (dead) brother. I miss Clovis. :{
Oh, wait. A hopeful thought came by. Maybe Clovis had managed to be saved? I have my doubts about this world’s medical achievements, but if there’s a sliver of hope out there then I’ll take it. I have a feeling that we will get stone-cold confirmation on the matter very soon from Tosch himself.
As for Quin and Dak…well, it seems like they will be sold off to slavery in the Felis lands, judging by the Chapter 3 image. The thought makes me cringe, how terrible is that?
Kenosh is a mystery to me. It seems that he has a second family among the Ermehn. Perhaps he considers Hardin to be a sort of second son?
Looking forward to the coming weeks. :}
Not a second son . . . a proper son.
(Never even considered that Quin and Dak could be sold as slaves to the Felis! What a troubling thought . . . and it would get the kitties involved in the war, which is currently not their concern.)
What do you mean by a “proper son?” Do you think that Dakkan falls short? :0
Kenosh has made it clear in the past that he feels so, his last words to his son notwithstanding.
VarVou, otters with squeaky toys are best otters. :P
I can see where you’re coming from, Fourth Master. Kenosh’s interruption of Clovis back when Clovis was saying how disappointing Dakkan is, could be genuine or perhaps a masking of true feelings.
With that said, though. I feel that Kenosh was true to his feelings when he said how proud he is of Dakkan. It may be a temptation for Kenosh to think, from time to time, that Dakkan isn’t where he should be, which would put Dakkan in a lesser light. However, temptations don’t make a person. Their actions do, and I think that Kenosh never truly let’s himself believe that Dakkan is less of a son now than if he met social standards.
This comic is so, so, so slow. :P
Patience is a virtue my Freind ;)
+ And In addition, this time is greater excitement in anticipation of the next page :D ; After that, for me, the problem of today’s world is, first and foremost, is that we all want to got everything what we want – NOW – now, now, now, immediately; It can not be certain things speed up in order not to spoil the although the remnants of the order and taste in this world my friend :) ;)
Jakub is right.
Also one page a week of this quality is not slow. Just talk to anyone who ever read Battle Chasers.
In the mean time have you read the comics Alex and Rachel have suggested in the sidebar?
Rachel and Alex, this seems like a good panel to mention that I’ve always appreciated your decision to give your characters practical and understated clothes, armour and weapons.
Tosch might be a talking animal in a fantasy world but his sword is a real damn sword that will cut you.
Strange that I can suspend my disbelief for the existence of orcs, elves and dragons in fiction but as soon as somone wears spiked pauldrons or casually swings a hammer Geoff Capes couldn’t lift it pulls me right out.*
*Sorry Skyrim and Dragon Age, I think you’re cool but your armour and weapon designs can go jump in a lake.
Filthy traitor to mankind!
Everybody know that shoulders are a vital and particularly vulnerable part of the human (or humanoid) body, so they must be protected at all costs!
Ok. The Emperor of Mankind gets a pass.
And the Space Marines because they were the OG big shoulder pad guys.
And Samus Aran.
Harumph!
Quinlan’s injury is a point in favor of wearing the massive Space Marine pauldrons.
Oh no it’s the fat grandma from that soviet cat cartoon I cannot remember
What? XDD About what Cartoon you mean :D ? (If you remind it I wanna see it ^^ Hehe ^^ :D )
Napisał przecież, że nie pamięta :P
