Chapter 3: Page 13
In Dakkan’s defense, he probably didn’t know any of the answers the Canid were really looking for — but I’m sure General Tosch wasn’t in the mood to suffer ignorance. No, he was probably more about making other people suffer.
Anyway, hey! It’s Dakkan, everyone! He’s back! … Sort of! There’s been a lot of speculation from the readership about what exactly the young Lutren’s treatment would be following his father’s traitorous turn. Consider that question now answered: he’s a little worse for wear, to say the least.
I have to imagine that Dakkan laid on the snark perhaps a bit too thick when his “I don’t know why my dad killed your brother” response didn’t get the reception he’d hoped. Kenosh DID warn him about that Canid sense of humor, though.
This week for guest art, I wanted to showcase a fun project of Saraa Luna’s that she brought to my attention: YURK QUEST!
It’s a fun little Twine-based choose-your-own-adventure fan-fiction starring everyone’s favorite slightly-unhinged parkour enthusiast Ermehn in his younger days scrounging a meager living in the streets of Nessa. I love how Saraa worked in a bunch of cameos and kept the choices flowing in cohesive ways. There’s a “good” ending and a “bad” ending far as I can tell, and the bad ending is still pretty funny (and telegraphed a mile away).
To play it, head to this link and then download the HTML file by clicking on the downward-arrow in the top-right. Open that file in your internet browser of choice and it should work!
Also, Jerijune made some adorable fan-art of the fan-game featuring a very defiant-looking young Yurk hefting what appears to be a burrito of some kind.
Thank you Saraa and Jerijune for your incredible work! And Saraa, you’re proving a pretty quick study on Twine! I can’t wait to see what other amazing stories you put together with it! :)
Did he keep that bolt just to grandstand with it? Jeez man…
Tosch also finds it handy for picking his teeth and gesturing at powerpoint presentations.
Don’t forget using it to pin posters to trees and signposts.
If anyone ever doubted Clovis and Tosch were brothers, this cements it. Dramatic presentation runs in the family.
*Lady Canid moved wipes a small tear from her cheek with paw*
https://youtu.be/7ODcC5z6Ca0
Nooooo! Dakkan! Tosch what have you done?! Also, he just contaminated very important evidence! His paw prints are all over it now, and so will his fur. It’ll get in the way of the blood sample and ballistics tests!
Oh wait. This is during the medieval times… Forensics weren’t invented yet…
Actually these are not medieval times. This is a far future where a cult of highly experienced geneticists have managed to create animal people and replaced the whole of humanity with them. Not… not that I would know anything about that.
Yes, and if, by some small chance, you were seeking any assistants or accomplices for this plan that you do not have, you could do much better than asking me to help.
Purely hypothetically, of course.
No, they are are actuall stanists who used the darkest of magics
The Canid don’t need forensics. They can smell the scent of hardened criminals and filthy traitors a hundred paces away, and pick those giving it off out of a crowd at thirty.
Indeed Puppy Fourth Indeed C: We don’t need any strange “forencis” – All the time I Wonder what it’s mean… Please talk noramlly, not with some encrypt… -_- it seems to me suspicious… – Anyway our noses, experience and effective interrogation methods and Canid soliders (And our Top secret units of Canid soldiers) They are 300% effective, the best in the four kingdoms.
Puppies.
Of course Dakkan comes back the same day I do. Totally unplanned. :T
Gosh, the General Brothers do love their dramatics, don’t they? And given the fact that Tosch has been standing between the two of them this whole time, and that he //saved the bolt, I’m willing to bet he planned this entire exchange. Although given Quinlan’s status, I suppose that’s to be expected.I like the fact that he puts the blade back to Quinlan’s throat after stepping aside- he’s really showing who’s in control of the situation here, ha.
Ha, I called the quarrel’s significance. Dakkan, buddy, looks like you’ve had a Bad Time. I’m noting the torn shirt sleeve, too- that’s an interesting touch have, and like everything, I’m sure there’s significance behind it i haven’t fathomed yet. This is a great page- I love the use of the lighting, the way the composition leads up to the reveal and the often-cited expressions. I love that expression on Quinlan’s face, and the use of the lighting.
Tosch is the most evil grandma
Well Indeed now he looks for really haunted older than Clovis :/ Look really powerful well-built older experienced warrior canid – And I don’t know why I feel respect befor him now ;-; (perhaps out of fear)
Well yes, there’s a reason he’s in charge
Yup puppy, He commands respect… And he is little handsome.. C:
“Wh…What have you done?”
They punched him a couple of times. Dude, calm down!
Well, I’m of to try Saraa’s Cain and Yurk’s excellent adventure now.
Speaking of adventure games, there are two bugs in Fall of the Evyn-din I’d like to point out.
First, around the beginning of the game, there is a hyperlink text that still states Bevan having three daggers where the rest of the game says he has only two.
Second, near the end of the game where after Bevan has heard his uncle’s plan to attack Deltrada and you have the option of either get out of the tent and talk to Hardin or to literally beat up some sense into Evyn, The option to beat up Evyn doesn’t show up at all! Maybe it’s a mistake on my computer, but I was hoping you could give me some information on how to fix this last problem
……
*Wink wink nudge nudge*
I know it could sound a bit off but I wonder if there are some… “active” dities or demigods or at least vestigial amounts of magic in this story that could trick or bend the story somehow. Aside from magic, i think to myself how much torture is needed for Dakkan to change sides knowing his… affection (?) twoards the canid and their propaganda mind tricks.
Well well well… I could expect that General Tosch or his “servant” such a nice “conversation” with Dakkan… I’m curious when will the next round of “conversations”… Or maybe now it waiting for Quinlan?… ;_;
.
.
.
Quin.: What you have done with Dakkan!?
Tosch.: We did not do anything to him bad… Only he did it himself.
Quin.: Himself ?! Are you kidding me dude?
Tosch.: *Sigh* It was an accident… Emmm… When I politely and culturally talked with him over tea and cookies why his father betrayed us, he fell cookie on the carpet, and when he bent down cookie, unfortunately hit his head on the edge of the table and poured himself a hot tea on the neck.
Quin.: Oh…… ~ And how come these bruises under his eye and a bloody nose? It is also from Tea? And… Oh Gods *Gulp* And yet these traces scorching with hot iron and…
Tosch.: *paused Quinlan * Ah, how I am surly host – Quinlan? – …and maybe you too would like to drink tea and talk with us? Hmm? We will know better eachother, we’ll talk… *grins evilly*
Quin.: Halp…
Hmm, so now it’s clear Tosch thinks that Dakkan and his father plotted Clovis’s murder. If I were Tosch, I’d be wondering why Kenosh was able to escape yet failed to take his son with him . . . but I digress. The good news is he states that he’s sure of Quinlan’s innocence! This is a good thing!
. . . except that it means that he’s probably going to separate them. Quinlan is set free and told to hurry on home, or taken to Arklow to be a more civilly treated prisoner of war, while Dakkan continues to have the stuffing beaten out of him. And when the Canid finally become convinced that Dak doesn’t have anything useful to tell them, they’ll still hold on to him as a bargaining chip, trying to flush Kenosh out of the wastes.
Seriously, Kenosh, what was your plan for your son’s safety?
You are really clever puppy, but we can’t now confirm or denny these Ermehn deceitful media lies now for the good of The investigation of the murdered of General clovis, and all consonants and rumors about the brutal interrogation of prisoners of war or some betrayal one of the captains are all lies C: Thank you for your asks puppies <3
*quickly moves away from the piston reporters, cameras and microphones of the Canid press conference
My ambers are still on the “Hardin crashed the garrison early” theory
Well, and I think so like you Shield :/ … Hmm – Hardrin… Eh…
Whoever it is – if it Ermehn, and in particular their leader, sooner or later this Barbarian will reach Canid justice…
I forgot about that theory.
But even if Hardin had waited, like Kenosh wanted, what was his plan? Would he just ask them to join him in abandoning their duties to Sunsgrove and hanging out in the Wastes with the Sratha-Din? I don’t see either Quinlan or Dakkan being particularly amenable to that idea.
My take on it is I think Kenosh anticipated Clovis’ attempt to keep him at Deltrada. (Remember, Kenosh is the one who told Dabheid “the situation up north has escalated” and prompted the entire diplomatic mission to begin with- he never said just how he came across that info- perhaps planned in advance, perhaps a contact with the Polcan or something [SCANDALOUS])
Anyway,Kenosh would eventually have agreed to stay with the Canid on the condition that Quinlan and Dakkan get to leave. This way, when the attack on Deltrada happened, not only would Dak and Quin be in the clear both motively and physically away from the actual fighting, it gives him a chance to give both of them a proper goodbye. Instead of, you know, what they got. (Alex I think my heart is still in pieces from that :Y) Obviously, Hardin attacking a night early ruined that plan, and explains why Kenosh was so furious at the fact that Hardin didn’t wait.
. . . This seems spookily accurate.
Well… I know that isn’t on this theme, but if comes about our Hardrin – I have other new theory with him – I was wonder about it per few weeks, and in next week I wanna strat it and ask waht do you think about it – Namenly I have theory and answer for one question about Hardrin – WHY he do it – WHy he is a leader and why he want destroy Canid and give freedom for your people – I mean why he? What were happened that he so much HATE Canid as anyone and so why him this depends on a rise and freedom and maybe yet… personal revenge on canid, even at the cost of lives of some of his fellows? Wel I.. I-I just mean about that there maybe can a few reasons, I’m not talking here about such an obvious reason that Ermehn is literally exterminated by the canid, murdered on a background of racial and cultural niches that nothing was left this nation, and they need to hide or fight for survial… I mean taht maybe in past in Hardrin live, something were happend… He may personally experienced the terrible suffering of the torturers canid on any field of life, maybe something he took what he loved … or someone? …
I have a few theories about it – If you wanna talk about it we may talk about it now or i next week Salmon Party :)
@Fourth- Time will tell.
@Jakub- I think it’s very likely that Hardin has a Tragic Backstory, but something tells me that he’s been groomed and conditioned for this since he was young and would be as driven regardless of said backstory. The Oran Uprising- and Kenosh’s contact with the Ermehn- was fourteen years ago. Hardin was no older than fifteen, and could have been as young as twelve. While this would have made him an adult by Ermehn standards, given Hardin’s inexperience, I think it’s likely that he didn’t plan this entire thing himself. Ashtor is out as a co-plotter considering that even Hardin doesn’t know why Ashtor is in the Wastes- leaving some unknown figures we haven’t met yet.
Now I’m little confused Shield, okay I understand everything theories now there, but I’m confusing just in that Hardrin Errrr… Have just 15 years old now When he leads his people to uprising, or he were 12-15 when were Oran upricing? *I’m little confused now shield with these date and years ^^; hehe ^^;
Ah, but I were wonder (If it is that what you wanna made there Alex and Rachel, I’m sorry just I wondering ^^; ) if it is not the same or really silmilar story like in “Brave Heard” with Mel Gibson?…. You know shield, maybe Hardrin have a family, were a pround young happy father, had a small small children with a loving wife… And some Canid Patrol once find them in forest, and Hardrin could not make it to defend his family and they kill them without mercy on his eyes… and later he alive, or something like that… Maybe he have brken heard, look that Hardrin look like someone who was very emotionally, psychologically wounded, with void in the heart – with broken heart – who only wants revenge, by the way, leading people to freedom, who look that he want just punish them for kill their beloved… – Look Shield that Hardrin is always very very serious, mysterious, quiet – in fight very very violent especially for canid, in figth show that something great rage and emotions are hidden – honestly I do not remember that whereverhe joke and a laugh like the others his friends, really I never seen Hardrin not smilingyet , sincerely even hard for me to imagine smiling Hardrin ;-; – Well I have such teory that behind freedom and fight for normal live I think that he every day have in his heard maybe his wife and childrens, maybe when no one is looking cries of longing and psychological pain – I don’t know…
Hmm… Huh…
He was 12-15 when the Ermehn revolted- right now, he’s in his late twenties.
Okay, Now I unnderstand Shield – That was what I suppose ^^; :)
Poor Dak. We know how he reacts to blood in general, but I wonder how he reacted to seeing his own blood running down his face.
Hey puppy, but look from that side then when he wake up after our… Errrr* …little heavy “conversation”, perhaps by all these events which he had experienced and the slaughter of the barbarians which he saw, he lose the fear before blood? C: Hmm? What do you think puppy? :3
Geez, I would assume that Dakkan just suffered get punched repeatedly and hopefully not anything worse than that. I was thinking that maybe they held him in another room. Oh Tosch you and your methods. Now I REALLY wonder how in the world both Quin and Dak will get out of this mess (putting my money on Jyaniku taishi)
And anyone who hasnt gone and tried out Saraa’s twine, totally do it! It’s so cute and fun and adorable and Yurk is such a noodle and I loved it X)
Beat on the otter! Beat on the otter!
Actually, given Dak’s present appearance, I’m willing to bet he’s still not in as bad shape as Quin with that bolt wound to his shoulder.
Also, Tiny Yurk totally rocks!
*starts a Tiny Yurk Fan Club*
tiny yurk is a reference to a show. hint: drunken scientist taking his grandson on dimension hopping adventures
Back to the Future
Pretty sure it’s Rick and Morty . . .
Pfft, of course not. How ridiculous would that be?
(Shield and I are both being a bit silly)
Don’t worry guys :3 (Sara, and Shield ^^ ) – you aren’t alone – I’m little silly too :3
I did not know that there was a Back to the Future cartoon.
I however am not surprised.
As I feared. Poor Dak. D:
What I fear even more is how Dakken will feel towards his father now…do I sense enmity between father and son rapidly growing, only to result in Dakkan being driven by hatred so much; that he will now seek to kill his own father? I really hope not, I don’t want more familial strife between them. Though anger is certain to be there when he comes to.
It’s sickening how similar things have happened in our world. Hurting and killing each other to get information about the other’s nation, having to suffer because as separate countries we demonize our neighbors. It’s scary to think how we can band together for a greater good, but we also have the potential to see others as nothing more than dirt, as insects to be destroyed. I would be lying if I said that I don’t know how such feelings could arise. I have had such feelings before, or lack thereof. Being so empty that nothing holds value: not you, your family, and certainly not other random people. Anyone can feel such hatred, isolation, and rejection. Which is why we need to be here for others. As cliché as this sounds, the truth it holds is so dear to us and me: everyone needs friends, someone to love them and someone to love. It’s amazing to realize that everything else in life flies out the window in favor of love and social interaction – including one’s own sense of self-preservation. I can’t speak for others, but I am speaking for myself.
I’ll get off my soap box now, ha. Thanks for the page. :}
Hey miss canid who helped out Quin & Dak against those ermehn on the roof, now looks like a good time to show up and explain some things to Tosch D:
Quiet Puppy! That was my great mistake, because I didn’t know that this “fight” on the roof was set by these triators with these Barbarians which had To pull my attention away from our beloved Father and lamented commander General Clovis which they later kill him – the only consolation is that I was able in this way to get rid of a few more filthy scum Barbarians – They all will paid for this! -_-
… And from this day I will have an eye on you and your conversation, you politically suspect puppies! -_-
*slowly retract back into the shadows making the sign with the Paw fingers on the eyes “I will watching you…” *
Not only has she started reading the comments, but our little display last week was enough to draw her out of lurking . . .
Welcome to the Salmon party, Ms. Canid!
And same to you Welcome puppies C:
*immediately wary, but with reversing attention courtesy and smile sniffing conspiracy..*
How polite too. I, for one, welcome the influx of slightly less murderous canid into the comment section.
Uh, I’m not so murderous Lady Canid at someone murderous I look (Actually, it’s all politics and emotional game/cover to track down the traitors, culprits, and Ermehn :3 – This is just my work :3 ) – Privately I’m so fluffy and nice Lady which love drink tea with forest raspberry and cookies with chocolate, near the fireplace in the comfort of the family home, cleaning my Ermehn sword from blood, my dear <3
Ahaha, you’re my favorite now; keep up the good work in the comment section, Miss.
Awwww Thank youuuuuuuuuuuu <3 :3
Lady Canid if I may be so bold….Isn’t a little insulting that we keep referring you as such? Come on lets have it, what you’re actual name!
*is this seriously happening now XD oh you people. Never change*
Well puppy Veigue – I don’t feel offended or something like that, when I read your comments about me (Sometimes I feel intimidated and flushed ^///^) and Your elaborate conspiracy plans against canid – Well this is just my work watch and track you in comments and look if you conspired against canid, or do not you support these barbaric Ermehn… Well and if you wanna know what I feel and think most often when I read your discussion and conspiring comments even about me, there you can watch what I feel and think ->

Have a Nice Day puppy ^^
*Send a kissin air from paw*
I liked the Yurk Quest, it was very well written!
Aw, thank you!
I’ll second this, it was nice to see how Yurk and Cain met. And running across the Sand Spiders as kids was just too cute.
Poor Dakkan. He doesn’t look like he’s had the worst time, but he’s certainly not having a good one either. Any of Kenosh’s plans for his son’s safety went straight down the drain when Hardin moved early. I can’t see the Canid freeing Dakkan, even if they free Quinlan. If anything gets Kenosh to turn himself in, it would be his son used as a bargaining chip. Whether the Din let Kenosh do that or not is up for debate, even if Dakkan’s life is on the line. 1+ for Tosch’s dramatic timing. He and Clovis are both a bit… extra.
Yurk Quest is a bit of a mess (so many typos manifest when think they’re gone, grumble) but I’m glad you got a kick out of it! There’s one Bad Ending and two Good Endings, though the two good endings are near identical until the final scene. It all depends on how the encounter with Beck goes.
Okay, so from this page and the information below, we know that Tosch believes that Quinlan is completely innocent, but doesn’t think Dakkan is, and apparently beat Dak up when couldn’t say more than confirm that his father was the murderer.
So Dak didn’t specifically try to hide any info to protect his father – the Canid already knew who killed him, they want to know WHY, which he can’t tell them in any case. Quin, however, doesn’t yet know that the Canid know that Kenosh was the killer, though maybe he will soon. If not, will he try to not reveal that Kenosh killed Clovis?
Also – Dak, never be snarky to an enemy who very clearly holds all the power in an encounter!! This is why, tempermentally, Quin makes a better diplomat than you do…
