Chapter 3: Page 24 Delay
Sorry, everyone! Last-minute tax-related shenanigans have derailed this week’s post, but at least offered us a fun delay doodle as compensation. I would have filled out the delay with a short story or something, but I’ve been in North Carolina this week for a business conference and was pretty much unavailable for most of the week — but we’ll be back into the swing of things next week!
Felis taxes are pretty extensive, to help pay for the many, many activities related to both defensive and religious pursuits in Kishar — namely the Scholars and their recording/research/travel/meddling in other cultures’ business. They still use abaci (abacuses is also apparently an acceptable/real word!) of course and some of their accountants are a little slower than others.
This Felis merchant is waiting patiently for the accountant to calculate how much he owes/what his return might be, but I think we can all tell he’d rather be somewhere else.
Anyway, apologies for the delay post, and see you all in the comments section (and with the proper page next week)!
Ugh. Taxes. I feel your pain.
Look forward to the new page whenever it doth shall appear.
I wonder how much the merchant will have to take in losses from necklaces snatched by quick-fingered Lutren? That’s probably what’s taking the accountant so long, figuring out if that’s deductible or not.
Good luck with your business stuff, Alex! I look forward to seeing the next page!
I always love seeing information outside the scope of the story!
Do scholars count as offensive or defensive activity? Probably the former- imperialism masquerading as ‘war relief’ or ‘educational activity’ is still imperialism.
I hope you both are doing well.
Hi, Shield! Good to see you again!
Late to the comment party, but I hope taxes aren’t treating either of you guys too badly. I love the current art too. Taxes are bad enough without having an abacus present. If the fur didn’t muck with things, I could easily imagine a Felis being invested in an abacus ring.
Also, not to besmirch Felis dignity or anything, but I feel like a house with some youngsters would have to put any new abaci with bright, shiny beads away from the children. You know how cats are.
Oh man I can just picture it now. A Felis arithmetician parent seeing his/her kids running around playing with the little beads everywhere and he/she yells “ORDER ORDER, EVERYTHING IS OUT OF ORDER”. A total wonderland for them if you know what I mean.
I bet you could design one that prevents fur being an issue. That’s really cool :o
And of course, the alternative to having the kittens break your nice new abacus is to get them colorful child-friendly abaci of their own!
But what happens when they inevitably break their toy, causing all the beads to roll across the floor? We know what effect balls have on the Felis . . .
I think the parents then sigh in relief that the children are still engaged and not back to pulling on their robes – praise the designers that would craft two toys in one!
I feel like Felis parents spend much time being very, very tired. Moreso than other parents (aside from the ones stuck out in the Wastes). I also suppose that putting on a thin cloth back to the ring would fix stuff; no worries about the beads getting caught on fur then.
I want to b00p all the sn00ts in this world. All the 00turs, doges, squorrels, smol doges, polkorns, urmurnz, and kit-katz. All have the most b00p-able of sn00ts.
One of my favorite doge moments is Chapter 2, page 31, panel 3. The brown doge’s face leading our Sunsgr00ve friends is like, “Hm? Who dat, who dat?” looking at who I theorize to be the real General Clovis, the one carrying the arrows.
Let me hold on to my false hope that Cl00vis is alive somewhere. D:
