Chapter 3: Page 37
Ominous howling! And of course Quin is proving how good he would be at an old-school adventure game, picking up the arrow inventory item for later use. Of course, if you’re going to rock a bow, even a single arrow is better than no arrow at all.
This week has been kind of crazy for us at ArenaNet — if you’re familiar with Guild Wars 2, you might have noticed that we just announced a brand new upcoming expansion this week! Path of Fire will be the second expansion for Guild Wars 2, introducing a TON of awesome new stuff, including mounts, new elite specializations, and a ton of new content to experience. Here’s our announcement video, which includes a bunch of cool interviews with the team and video features about the expansion:
While I didn’t work on the expansion directly, I had the tremendous opportunity to see it all come together, and I’m very excited to check out all it has to offer! You can check out more about the game on the Guild Wars 2 website!
This week for guest art, I wanted to share this very cool movie-style poster that was designed by DetectiveRJ!
I don’t know, I’d probably go see this movie. I know, I’m biased, but it’s got a lot going for it, including:
- An ominous leading quote
- A squirrel wearing a badass hood
- Also he’s holding a bow, so some cool arrow sniping’s about to go down
- Alex Kain and Rachel Bennett are pretty okay!
For serious though, thank you, DetectiveRJ! I love how the poster looks :)
Oh dear, this should be good. We should start picking sides now then…
lol
This comic has some very nice attention to detail. With Quinlan keeping only one arrow in his quiver. Then losing them momentarily, then regaining them.
And here I just started checking out Guild Wars 2 and Alex goes on to work at Arenanet! Congratulations on the new progress!
Yeah I think he’s been working there for a bit now? I don’t exactly remember when he started.
Been there about seven months now, yeah! Love the studio, love the people :)
I’m going to make confession here. I do remember you saying you had joined Arenanet many times before…… but I forgot that was the name of the company that made Guild Wars 2.
Ominous indeed! My guess is that next we’ll see our heroes running away, and then cut to Janik in a different kind of trouble?
You mean dodging the rapidly aproaching Lutren and Tamian being chased by a Canid legion?
Hey, Alex. RJ here. Thanks so much for the feature. I’ve been a fan of this comic for some time and it was truly a pleasure to do some art for it for both you and Rachel. Keep up the awesome work, this whole plot is getting so darn good.
Thanks so much, RJ! We’re so glad you’re enjoying the story, and double-thanks for the awesome poster. Looking at the comments this week, seems people really like it!
You’re very welcome, and I very much appreciate everybody’s nice comments – even got some ideas for some future work from one of them – and congrats on the coming together of Guild Wars 2. I don’t play much of it but I know how rewarding it is to see a project completed. ;D
nice page! and just when Quin starts to get badass, something juuuuust comes in to spoil the fun…. why must the Gods be so cruel to our little bundle of innocence..?
also, congrats on making progress, Alex! I hope things go well with Guild Wars 2!!
as for the guest art, I’d go watch that movie! I don’t care how much the tickets cost, I just want to see this story unfold in animated form!
Would have already reserved seats at the theater if there was a BTWD movie on the big screen. We do have Elson Wong’s video which counts in a way. Anyhow if were picking sides Greyly, than I’ll choose the Ermehn or Polcan. Good luck with the work in guild wars two.
fair enough.
Also while I’m here does anyone have a decent name idea for a beat that the Ermehn would hunt for hide to build their tents? I have a emu like thing that is a cousin to the birds used by the Vupin, but I’m terrible at naming things. Its been a sticking point in my short story so far. Any Idea’s. Greyly what side/race would you pick?
Canids, also because when it is all over (hopefully in good terms with everyone) I would like to pick up the pieces and help build something better. Just my kind of mind set.
And I’m sorry, can’t think of any suggestions for a name :(
I can understand that. I picked ermehn because I like to see them rebuild their civilization. That’s why I’ve been trying to put together a short story to explore that very concept. Although it started as a story concept for a fire emblem styled game. One day, one day.
That’s pretty good.
I’m sure you’ll be able to develop that, just don’t loose focus of it :)
Ooh, I like this page. Poor naive Dakkan, despite his growing cynicism he just wants this bad dream of his father turning traitor and murderer to be over.
I still feel like that one arrow is going to be important, since it’s received an inordinate amount of screen time now . . .
Love the movie poster! Great job. But don’t most movies have more than one poster design? I’d love to hear everyone else’s suggestions for some others. Personally, I’d want to see one with Kenosh brandishing his sword and glaring right at the camera, with the quote “War, captain, is what you get when you have two armies who don’t like each other very much,” and one with a rampaging Ermehn horde with the quote “This IS diplomacy!”
Kudos to you for those suggestions. This certainly won’t be me my only piece of fanart for the comic and I do enjoy making fake posters, so I’ll certainly take your ideas to heart. I did actually want to put Hardin at the top of the finished poster but I backed out for the sake of composition, so I certainly do need to work on a contrasting one with him and the other Ermehn.
Wow that poster looks so delicious. At least the film will look a lot better than the emoji movie.
Nice work DetectiveRJ!
I very much like the morning light reflecting off the river ano onto the rocks and characters.
Congrats on guilds wars 2.
Poor Quin
Hey an arrow has more then one use as proven by our hero, escaping a dungeon, using it to pick locks (via plus fifty lockpick skills) useful for climing surfaces, stabing someone with, and useful as flint to help start a fire so yeah many uses
