Chapter 3: Page 50
Oh that’s right, Tosch was delayed on the road, wasn’t he? I’m never late to anything, so I can’t relate. I’m the guy who shows up 5 minutes early to meetings. Whenever there’s a party, I show up first and awkwardly stand around with the hosts before anybody arrives, not comfortable enough to start eating the hors d’oeuvres because nobody else is there to partake. This is why I don’t get invited to many parties these days. Among other reasons, I’m sure.
Speaking of parties and appetizers, American Thanksgiving is happening this next week! For a multitude of reasons, including a desire to relax and be with family, we’ll be forgoing a page next week in lieu of a filler post. But trust me when I say we will endeavor to make it NOT filler. Don’t expect an elaborate ghost story (mostly because it’s Thanksgiving and ghost stories really aren’t a thing), but we’ll try!
For guest art this week, I wanted to share this really fun piece drawn up by Elise Addington, who emailed it to us via the Western Deep Gmail!
This ermehn character is Frell, and he may have crutches! But as Elise mentioned in her email, one would still not wish to mess with him. I can totally see why — he looks like he knows his way around that bow!
Thank you so much for sending us this incredible artwork, Elise. We’re looking forward to seeing the continued adventures of Frell in the future :)
And remember, if you want to share artwork with us for potential posting on future posts, you can email it to us at thewesterndeep (at) gmail (dot) com.
You can also join us in the community Discord!
Just head to this link right here and you’re good to go! You can share artwork, chat with us, and also post links to silly cat videos on YouTube.
That last one is probably most important.
Anyway, have yourselves a wonderful Thanksgiving if you’re celebrating, and otherwise have a great week!
Hardin putting that charisma to work. Good on him. And Kenosh has a pretty good defense ready as well. Still, Rathik looks like he’ll need to punch something/someone to feel better. Perhaps Bevan should hide?
Hark! Kenosh speaks! For the last few pages he’s been standing in the corner with a disinterested look in his face. Man of few words, I respect that.
I wonder is there a language barrier in this world, or do all races speak the same language? It would explain why Kenosh did not say anything during the last few panels, but then again he spent time with the Ermehn, so he would have learned the language. Guess I answered my own question.
Good work as always Alex, Rachel and to everyone in the salmon party have a great thanksgiving. See you on the last pelican out.
That’s been answered here:
In summary, every race does have its own native tongue but there is a single common language to make communication easier.
Annd I forgot the link. :ashtor_palm:

Much Appreciated.
Love that stinkeye Hardin is giving Kenosh. Someone please cut out that panel and make it an icon or a reaction image
Ask and ye shall receive.

Great art as always, Rachel- you really capture their emotions in their body language. I love the lighting on this page, too- you really know how to create mood in a page.
Interesting choice of words there on Rathik’s part. “what WE lost.” it seems like he feels Kenosh is somehow a threat to that promise. Course the fact that he’s Sunsgrovian probably isn’t helping either. I do have to wonder how Kenosh managed to kill only Oran during the entire Uprising. Before his capture, I doubt he cared much about the Ermehn plight, especially since the Lutren were going off the Canid information telling them that the Ermehn were planning on invading Sunsgrove. I guess that will be explained later on, since we know for a fact that Dakkan’s hemophobia is not hereditary.
Tosch being alive is probably going tho throw quite a wrench into Hardin’s plans. Of course, Hardin is the one who attacked early so he really doesn’t get to complain about Tosch not being there. Something tells me the irony is lost on him.
Already this fragile alliance seems to be cracking. Hardin doesn’t seem to trust Kenosh much more than the others, even given everything that Kenosh has sacrificed for his cause- which is quite a lot. There has to be a reason Hardin needs Kenosh with this group- maybe information. As the head of the Lutren Sea Guard, he has to have quite a lot of information at his hands.
That said, we’re not sure if they expected Kenosh to be hailed as a hero and promoted on his return- Dakkan didn’t mention that his father killed Oran. of course, it is Dakkan. He just might not have cared that his dad killed Oran, just that he didn’t come home himself. It would explain why he was hailed as a hero on his return to the point of being called in to see King Dabheid if they knew, or maybe the POW thing was enough. Either way. I’m sure all will be explained- including the ‘only one’ thing.
Another point- we know Hardin spent a long time gathering up the Sratha-din. they might not all be in the Sratha-in for the same reasons, and some of them (ASHTOR) have their own agenda we still have no insight to. Kenosh’s arrival has clearly stirred some of that up, and I can’t wait to see where this goes next.
Wonderful job, as always.
Regarding Tosch, yeah, that was my first thought as well. Hardin’s suddenly all grumpy at Kenosh, when he was the one who decided to attack early. If he’d waited, he could have taken out both generals. (And Kenosh would have had his chance to negotiate, so when that inevitably failed, resorting to violence would actually be justified, not that Hardin or the rest of the Sratha-Din likely care about that detail.)
We all know how Kenosh killed Oran. He stabbed him in the back of course.
Heh. Maybe Kenosh did have some sympathy for the Ermehn – I can’t imagine Hardin sparing him at all, if he didn’t suspect that.
I am curious about the language thing though. Do the races have their own languages?
Also – hi, everyone! Didn’t have the courage to comment before this, but since Alex was kind enough to put up Frell, I figured this was nothing. Thanks again, Alex!
Also, definitely great job, Rachel. Kenosh’s face in that last panel is my favorite.
Nice to hear from you, Blind! Great to have you onboard, hope to see ou in the discord. Great job on your art piece, I hope to see more of Frell!
Nice to meet you! Hope you enjoy yourself here!
Welcome to the Salmon party TheBlindOne! Thank you for sharing Frell.
Thanks! I was really excited that he got posted. I’ve only been drawing seriously for about two years now, so this was a big shock for me. I’m glad to be officially in the Salmon Party – I hope to contribute much more often now…
oooh the suspense is stabbing me in the gut! just how thorough did Hardin plan all this? does he have a plan B? anyway, awesome work as always!
It seems to me that Hardin overplanned all of this, honestly. His master plan had no chance of failure . . . just so long as everything was in place. It’s like a giant sequence of dominoes. Tosch’s absence took out a few of the connecting dominoes and now a whole series aren’t knocked over.
