Chapter 3: Page 67
Janik isn’t quite cut out for manhandling a canid soldier, and that crossbow stock is most certainly going to leave a mark. Things are looking pretty dire, I’ll admit, but you’ve got a wild “HEY!” You never know about those “HEY!”s, they could be anything. Could be another group of canid soldiers looking to help! I’m just saying, you never know these things.
Not a whole lot else happening on the Western Deep front, though we’re still plugging away at Kickstarter stuff and have been working with Nolan Markey, who you might remember as the composer of some truly fabulous Western Deep musical pieces (including a jig featuring live instruments!), to produce some new music for our pitch video!
As for the Kickstarter, it will begin officially on SEPTEMBER 1st. That’s right! We’re kicking it off in a little over a month! As the rewards come together and are finalized, I’ll have a lot more to say about it. But for now, please hang tight for a few weeks as we get everything squared!
Aside from that, in the ‘personal plugs’ department, we’re running a new Guild Wars 2 festival starting this upcoming Tuesday (the 24th) called the Festival of the Four Winds, which I had a major hand in writing. If you explore the Labyrinthine Cliffs, you’ll stumble across all sorts of fun characters and scenes that I was able to help put together with the rest of the festivals team, so check it out if you can!
See you next week!
Hey, guys!
Guys!
Do you think the big white fella’… do you think he tried to cut off his nose to spite his face?!
Har, har! Right?!
Right?!?!!!
I’m guessing that “Hey” means it’s our friendly neighborhood Sand Spiders?
Or on second thought, maybe it could be that Vulpin from earlier who ran out when he heard the word ‘screaming.’ Someone’s gotta be back for those ostriches, at least.
Huh, I was wondering about Crossbow Jerk. Crossbows could take a while to reload, if I remember things right (and by “things” I of course mean weapons in tabletop RPGs, lol), so using it to bludgeon someone immediately WOULD make more sense than taking the time to reload in a situation like this. There is a risk that he somehow broke his crossbow in doing so, mind…
HEY! Good page this week, not how I would think to use a crossbow but if it works (don’t worry Corbin I’m sure the crossbow is fine, simple tools are hard to break but he might have cracked the stock while using it to crack Janik’s head). Anywho, our fearless sand spiders return most likely. That or its a vulpin charioteer steaming toward them who knows? FIND OUT NEXT WEEK!
Yeowch. Getting buttstroked hurts. It hurts real bad whether it’s polymer or straight wood (usually with metal buttplate), as I discovered when a friend quickly turned around with a newly bought US Krag and not noticing my face near the strike zone while sitting on the couch.
Hope Janik still has all her teeth after that.
Also Sand Spiders to the rescue! Maybe! Could be a bystander who noticed the ruckus.
I know he just bashed Janik across the face (bad dog!), but can we take a moment to appreciate how fluffy Crossbow Jerk is?
Stab him Mitra
I just noticed all the Canid have bloody handprints. Is that a symbol of some sort?
I noticed this in chapter 2, page 35 and I found it an AMAZING detail that is shown and not told.

General Clovis (who did nothing wrong!) does the whole ‘hand on the heart’ thing when talking about the passing of Captain Caldus. I assumed the fact that his hand is exactly over the ‘bloody’ hand print is not a coincidence.
Just one of the many touches that has made me love this story.
You aren’t by any chance the same Buster Charlie who used to hang out on Dave Hopkins’ sites ages ago, are you?
Anyone notice the Friendly wolf who saves Quin in the tower has a ‘handprint’ mark on his Spaulder (he has no breastplate)?
If one was the same Buster Charlie one would not be proud of that fact.
That’s … wonderfully cryptic. In any event, welcome to the Salmon Party! (Don’t remember seeing you around before this, so if you have been and I simply missed you, my apologies.)
I just discovered this comic last month, liked it so much I bought the hard copy off amazon. I don’t have a whole lot to add to the conversation so I’ve not really said anything but I thought the handprint was a very nice touch.
I’ve got some speculation about it but really that’s not important I suppose.
Been trying to see if I can get a Discord invite but not much luck in that regard.
But I’ve been pretty much out of the loop and not active with anything these days, I checked this out on a recommendation of a fan and fell in love. It’s such a bittersweet story.
Well, Mitra didn’t do a very good job of seeing to it that Janik acted sensibly.
“These big doggies just tried to kill us. I’ll step right up to one of them and chastise him severely.”
And, as with everyone else, wondering who the “Hey!”-shouter will turn out to be. Pins and needles, folks, pins and needles!
So.. some kind of acupuncturist?
Mmmmaybe. T’would be a tough craft to practice through all the fur.
Good stuff. Alex and Rachel always know how to craft a weekly cliffhanger.
