Chapter 3: Page 68
WHO ARE THESE HOODED HEROES? Well, if you haven’t caught up on the past chapters of the story in a while, you might want to swing back over to Song of the Eastern Sands and give it a gander, because that is clearly Beck and Rook leaping heroically into the fray (along with an aloe plant who has done the world a great service by sacrificing itself).
Their entrance was originally a little different as-written. It wasn’t a flower pot, for example, but a barrel. And it wasn’t up on a rooftop, but at ground-level. Not nearly as dynamic, which Rachel caught–recommending a flying “potted succulent” and a more dramatic rooftop entrance. In the end, it just came down to a simple desire. Quoting her directly:
“I just like the idea of the pot shattering on this poor meathead.”
You and me both, Rachel. You and me both.
We’re actually going to be taking a quick break from Janik and the newly-introduced Sand Spiders next week with a one-off hiatus story and a guest image by Leah (Jayelle), temporarily returning us to some familiar characters. This is to give Rachel a bit of time to focus exclusively on Kickstarter-related artwork that we need to get ready, and it’s been pretty difficult to get that done along with the weekly pages, so hopefully a little break will help with that.
See you next week!
Ohh…Rachel made these two so lovely *_*
I’m very happy they finally crossed over after all this time and Beck’s teeth look sharper than ever heh
IT’S THEM!!!! IT’S THEM!!!!
(and I don’t mean giant ants)
Poor meathead.
Even though it’s long been speculated by some in the Salmon Party that either the Spiders or Cain & Yurk would be the ones coming to the rescue, now that it’s actually happened, the visual and visceral impact is so much greater than I might have imagined. This … page … so … satisfying … I cannot compliment the two of you enough on this. Superb!
“Poor meathead.”
Don’t worry, they say aloe vera is good for the skin.
Yes, it should help with the burn Beck just delivered.
We shall never forget your great sacrifice, heroic plant.
Rook is wearing a very serious belt.
Could moor a ship to that belt.
YEEEsss
And a classic Beck smile.
(wonder if she’ll bite anybody)
Attack of the Delinquents!
What is this city coming to? This is exactly why we need Canid peacekeepers to bring order to this chaos!
It’s not over yet, I feel like we’ve crossed the Rubicon (unless these Canid soldiers are acting on their own twisted version of what they consider ‘initiative’) and even if they are defeated (one way or another) then this is just a reprieve.
And honestly just because help arrived, nobody’s out of the woods just yet.
Eagerly awaiting the next, yet understanding that the delay is worth it.
*first thing we see of Beck in this comic is her teeth* Nice
Interesting you should say that. In hindsight it’s possible we saw the back of her hooded head on page 59.
Holy shit, I think you’re right! Good catch!
“Oh no, not again” said the Aloe.
Good joke. I get what you’re going for!
Heeey! There they are!
Looking forward to seeing the rest in Rachel’s style with maybe Cain and Yurk hidden somewhere as well, like what Jerome does with pics or panels with a large population.
Oh boy its so strange to see Beck and Rook in Rachel’s art style….. I love it.
I do not know these knew characters but they introduced themselfs well XD
Should have thrown that cactus for double pain
I will be very amused if that pot plant knocks Crossbow Jerk out. This is why you should wear helmets, folks!
Great to finally see Rook and Beck make their WD debut, too. It’s a testament to both Rachel and Jerome’s skills that these two characters translated so well from one art style to the other.
Finally!
