Chapter 3: Page 72
Looks like Beck was finally able to nail her QTEs along with Rook to finish off the fight! I imagine a lot of these action scenes like that, coming from a game design background after all. I love the fluidity that Rachel brought to Beck’s movement here–I specifically referenced Beck’s ‘natural lutren agility’ in the script, and that duck/counter really plays into that. It also plays off of Rook’s much more heavy-handed and direct approach (he’s an up-front bruiser by nature, even if ferrets and polecats are slinky sorts).
Now, we obviously still have five days to go before the Kickstarter comes to a close, but we hit a huge milestone recently when we became FULLY FUNDED!
That’s right, we hit our $16,000 funding goal with just a little less than half of the campaign left to go. Right now we’re sitting at $18,217, which puts us only $283 away from hitting our STRETCH GOAL: built-in ribbon bookmarks for every single book that’s printed for the Kickstarter.
We’re still thinking about possibly adding an additional stretch goal if we hit that, but with five days to go we’re going to keep things close to the vest a little longer. We know that there are quite a few people who have followed the Kickstarter without pledging, which could mean a potential influx of last-minute pledges once they see the campaign is successful and they know they’ll get their rewards. Either way, we’ll see what we can do!
In the meantime, we encourage everyone who hasn’t pledged yet but is thinking of doing so to please do so as SOON AS POSSIBLE! We’d love to keep up the momentum leading into the final days of the campaign.
And for anyone who hasn’t seen it yet, here’s an awesome Kickstarter promo image created by Jerome Jacinto, showing series favorite Bevan about to interrupt a pair of canid out on a country stroll! (I don’t think Bevan’s going to fail this QTE, do you? :)
At least two survived.
Congratulations on the campaign, very happy for all of you. :D
I rather like how this sorta showcases a ranger and rogue vs two fighters. and how the difference in style is so much much an edge.
Great moves guys
I realny didn’t exept such ending… :O
Executed with impunity!
Welp, that was a poor showing from the “professional” soldiers… no wonder they are kept far away from the homeland ^^
great work, looks awesome :3
Not sure whether such a neck stab would prove instantly fatal, or merely very painful and eventually fatal. Unless Beck severed the spinal column along with the jugular, I don’t know if he’d go down and stay down like that, and from the position of the strike it doesn’t look like it went anywhere near the spine. But, I realize “BWD” aims for a younger audience as well, and quick clean kills are preferable.
Speaking of quick clean kills, unless that was one whopper of a smash Rook gave his own opponent, I suspect Doggie Number Two is merely stunned or concussed … although in this case, “merely” could still be enough to leave him with permanent aftereffects. Perhaps someday we’ll see him as a background character in a tavern somewhere, reminiscing how he was a veteran/survivor of the Great Back Alley Bandit War.
At least we get to see what Janik and Mitra have been doing all this time – wisely standing back and letting the pros handle this.
And, it goes without saying, another great page!
Yeah, and the rush of adrenaline also has an effect on that. A person may not feel a bullet wound at first due to adrenaline, for example.
Nah, as a veteran he could instead teach the pups how not to cock up a fight with a pirate and an oily furred thief.
Pretty much instantly fatal for a wound like that. That’s going straight through the the jugular vein and the carotid artery bringing blood to and from the brain, and, judging by the angle of the knife, probably on both sides. He may as well have just had his head cut off. He probably has about 5 seconds of consciousness left before he blacks out.
Quite interesting.
If we’re working with realism, then if Chok Guy isn’t back up in about 30 seconds, then he’ll be getting up with severe brain damage or not at all. So it might be wise to get a move on, unless they want to go the ruthless route and make sure he stays down.
In the unlikely case that Neck Blood Guy is still going, he’s suddenly come down with an acute case of changed priorities. Or maybe not, as bleeding out trying to catch the ambassadors might be better than what Tosch has in mind for him if he fails.
If we were working with realism these animals wouldn’t be talking. :P
Interesting how Rook seemed very hesitant to kill his own opponent as opposed to Beck and simply knocked him out instead. I know it’s mentioned on the character page that he doesn’t like killing, but it’s nice to see how the “pirate” races like the Polcan can actually be decent folk.
Ironic how the one who humorously fumbled the knife is the one to deal a killing blow while the other who fought elegantly with the sword chose the harmless approach.
Daaw at Janik and Mitra steadying themselves in the background. Also, can that image of the canid’s eyes bulging out be a new reaction image for the Discord or something?
Wow! Did not expect the unflinching deathblow to come from Beck.
We know Rook was a pirate in a past life but is killing people something the members of the Sand Spiders have experience with?
Great page, I love Beck’s counter-attack, so smart and deadly.
Beck! Stabbing your dagger in someone’s neck murders people! One more strike and you’re out of the non-murderous escort!
Rest in piece poor filthy wolfy :(
Not much to add to these comments, besides one rather specific bit of praise: I love how Rachel does motion lines. I’ve never seen any other comic go for the chalky lines look for those, and it’s a very striking and neat effect. Like, it’s still obviously stylised, but works really well with how the colours are done. (The chalky kinda lighting helps!)
And on a silly note… not only did they neglect to wear helmets, these silly soldiers forgot neck armour, too!
If only they had listened to Wu Tang Clan
Hey you stabbed my friend!
