Chapter 3: Page 8
“What’s the worst that could have happened up there?” I don’t know, Mitra, but Deltrada looks pretty ominous there — it looks like the kind of place where things happen that are indeed the worst.
As you can probably tell by this segue, our perspective is shifting a little bit! Well, not just a little bit — entirely. We’re going to be revisiting some old friends that we haven’t seen in a while. For them, it’s just been one night, but for us it’s been… holy carp, ONE YEAR AND THREE MONTHS?
Yeesh, well. Let’s hope they’re in good form!
For guest art this week, to celebrate the end of Janik’s scene, I wanted to share this fun piece from Jerijune of a possible campaign poster for whenever Janik decides to run for Tamian public office! You know, if they ever have elections, or public offices!
Unfortunately, there are no elections in Terria, so Janik’s great election poster will likely go unused. Still, Janik herself would be flattered by the gesture, and could even use them less as election posters and more as general good ol’ Sunsgrovian propaganda!
Anyway, thank you Jerijune for the great guest art! It will be a little while before we see Janik again, so this is a great way to send her off for the time being.
And remember, if you have any Beyond the Western Deep guest art you’d like to share with the community on a future post, please do drop us an email at “thewesterndeep(at)gmail(dot)com”! We’d love to see it!
HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
Think I’m almost disappointed that we’re leaving Janik (and Mitra) already. But then again … DELTRADA!!! Yes, must be getting back there to see what’s been going on with the real protagonists of this piece, mustn’t we? Looking forward to it! In a manner of speaking …
And, not to dismiss all the great guest art we’ve been getting lately (and traditionally since the comic started, come to think of it), but that mock campaign poster is fantastic! Great work, Jeri!
*starts buttering up his popcorn for next week’s page*
Oh, boy, I’m so excited!! Finally we get to see what’s happened to Dak and Quin!! Poor Dak, he’s probably in shock about his father. And poor Quin! I’m sure they’ll find comfort and support in one another!
Love the poster! Especially the different colors on either side. I’d vote for her. :)
And Merry Christmas!!
Wow, I can’t wait to see where it goes from here. Returning to Deltrada, to see where our protagonists stand! The plot thickens . . .
And in my personal tradition, here’s my annual shot at a Dunian Christmas carol:
Warning bells, warning bells
It’s time for war in the kingdoms.
Ring-a-ling [ring-a-ling],
Hear them ring [ting-a-ling]
Soon there will be blood and steel.
Dreary fortress, weary fortress
standing firm in the rain
In the air there’s a taint of betrayal.
Ermehn scattered, Canid shattered,
with their general gone.
And each Canid garrison rings their
Warning bells, warning bells
It’s time for war in the kingdoms.
Ring-a-ling [ring-a-ling],
Hear them ring [ting-a-ling]
Soon there will be blood and steel.
Hear the swordplay
See arrows fly
Each smith lives in his forge.
As patrols scour the northern wastes empty.
At Deltrada
an armada
Is slowly being formed.
And above all the bustle you’ll hear
[Warning bells] the Canid soldiers are,
[Warning bells], they’re busy near and far,
It’s time for war in the kingdoms.
Ring-a-ling, [it fills the winter air]
Hear them ring [you’ll hear it everywhere]
Soon there will be blood and steel.
Dreary fortress, [warning bells] weary fortress,
[warning bells] Standing firm in the rain.
In the air [It’s time for war in the kingdoms]
There’s a thirsting for vengeance
Ermehn scattered, [ring-a-ling]
Canid shattered, [Hear them ring]
with their general gone.
Very soon it will be time for war.
here’s my shot at a Dunial carol: http://jeri-june.tumblr.com/post/154527806530/jeri-june-12-days-of-the-western-deep-or-12

…and an Ermehn revolution!
sing this from the first day all the way til the 12th, I dare you
Very nice, Jerijune! I especially love the illustrations.
thanks!
The poor vulpin trying to wrangle the four disgruntled ostriches is my absolute favourite.
We all remember Grumpy Ostrich. Always a hassle to get it to follow you
Wow, I’m impressed! That was AWESOME!!
“what could possibly go wrong?” …the worst thing to say when things are just about to get better…
I’m excited to wee Quin and Dak again, but I’m also worried about what the Canid are going to do to them…
oh, and by the way, the campaign poster was aimed at the Vulpin Council for the position of Ambassador for Terria.
oh, and merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all have a good time :D
What indeed :D
Happy holidays everyone!
“I’m sure they’re fine. It’s not like that raven’s eaten their eyes or something…”
Oh Mitra why did you had to go and jinx it. I for one am excited to see Quinlan and Dakkan back after seriously it has been a year and 3 months?
Here’s calling for Tosch’s introduction to the comic pulling off a Darth Vader complete with appropriate menacing theme music.
I love how determined you made Janik look here Jerijune. Nice work as always :)
Cue brutal interrogation that involves fists, the rack, possible hot iron.
I’ve been meaning to write this, so I’d better do it now…
I’m placing my (metaphorical) bet that it’s Dak who’s handcuffed on the Chapter 3 title page. His bracelets match the ones in the picture. Also, the hand shown is a left hand. Quin was shot in the left shoulder, so it’s highly unlikely he’d be leaning his left hand on the floor. In fact, he may even have his whole left arm tied to his chest (that’s how you immobilize serious shoulder injuries, right?).
Anyway, I’m super hyped for next week’s page!!! I wasn’t expecting a scene change so early in the chapter and I really wanna see Dak and Quin again (not that I don’t like Janik, but the others are in a much more cliff-hangery position at the moment!)
I’m also gonna try to watch Beyond the Western Deep: the Movie with my little sibs sometime soon, now that I’m home for Christmas and not stuck at college with broken earbuds…
Merry Christmas Eve, everyone!! :)
Sorry that I didn’t post anything yesterday, I wish you all a Merry Christmas and would like to present a jingle of my own:
You know of the shore, the ocean, and ships from before.
You know of the great fleet, the invasion, the Lutren and the war.
But can you recall
The least loved Polcan of all?
Paul the Land-lubbing Polcan
Wanted to live on the plains.
Of water he got seasick
And the scurvy caused him pains.
All of the other Polcan
Told him to just mind the sails
But Paul just plain refused
Even during heavy rains.
Then one foggy Christmas Eve
A Felis sailed by
“Far inland great things you’ll see
But if I take you’ll owe me.”
His fellow Polcan let him
and he lived with moderate glee
Paul the Land-lubbing Polcan
In indentured slavery.
Good!
Hype! Really looking forward to returning to the garrison. The unthinkable has happened and now where does the path lead? I hope Dak and Quin don’t get shoved into a huge mess concerning Kenosh. Some may believe that they also had part in Clovis’ murder. Then again, maybe not. Guess we’ll see.
Also, is there any way to get volume one in book form? I am biding my time to get volume two but in the mean time, I would like to know about the first one.
The paperback release of volume one is available on Amazon.
Thanks! :}
I know we dressed up the cast in Christmas sweaters last year, but I just found this song last night. I’ll link it, it still seems appropriate.
