Chapter 3: Page 83
Well, for the folks playing along at home, you get a nice little update into Tosch’s personal correspondence! Also that’s quite some shade he’s throwing around, but he’s still stinging a bit from losing his brother’s killers in their own territory, one has to figure. Tosch (and his brother, for that matter) seem to have subscribed to the “Belittlement with an Extra Dose of Sass” school of management.
Just look at all that sassafras.
I’m currently stuck in my apartment thanks to what many have described as a “snowpocalypse”, which is ironic since I came to the Pacific Northwest partially to avoid insane snowstorms like the ones I’d get back in New England. I can rest assured in the knowledge that all this snow will be gone in a week or two, but it’s still very inconvenient.
What ISN’T inconvenient is that we’ve just today placed our order for the Kickstarter campaign prints and bookmarks, with the bookplates being the only item left to source! The books are still in the process of being printed and shipped–and it’s kind of hard to get an update during celebrations for the Chinese New Year–but we’re hoping to have an update there sometime late next week. Probably not in time for the page post, but if you want the latest news on the Kickstarter, you can either keep your eyes peeled for the Kickstarter updates (if you’re a backer) or my personal Twitter account @tdcpresents.
If you have any guest art or fan material you’d like to send in for us to share on the website along with these page updates, please don’t hesitate to send us an email to hello@westerndeep.net! We’re looking forward to hearing from you!
Yay new page! I dont understand the message but it seems Tosch has more pressing matters anyway. We need guest/fan art? Roger that, will get on that.
“But … but General, I’m just the bird feeder!”
Great page, “shff” and all!
I don’t know about you but Beyond the Western Deep has got to be in the upper echelons of web comics featuring paper based sound effects. Top three at least.
I would like to know what your other two top contenders are.
Well there was… er… that one time Katia Managan folded a map into a paper hat and False Knees probably had some paper in it somewhere…and…err…
…Who am I kidding? BtWD is a world leader when it comes to papery typography.
“I blame myself for believing in you.” :D
Hmmm.
A few pages ago, when the “camera” cut back to Sigrid I made the mistake of thinking to myself: “What a relief it is to be following a viewpoint character who is not in imminent mortal danger*!”.
Now that tension has very much returned.
Is Tosch the kind of villain who murders the underlings that displease him? From what we have learned of Canid society I can’t imagine they are particularly tolerant of failure despite seemingly being so good at it.
*Apart from her blasé attitude to ladder safety.
After all the canid lost in Hardin’s attack, I suspect Tosch is unlikely to spite-kill any more, especially a valuable officer. He might, however, attempt to verbally deliver the death-of-a-thousand-cuts.
I sighed the sigh of internal relief when Janik and Mitra’s retinue of
nameless-but-still-cool guys and gals split off and were spared the ambush in the stables but the inexorable scythe of Death got them too*!
Oh, I definitly want these characters to live full and happy lives, read some good books and learn that musical instrument they’ve always liked, but if Tosch reaches over and strangles Sigrid on the very next page I’ll be sad but not surprised.
*If Rook can be believed. I choose to believe they are all alive and having fun at a karaoke night or something.
Those eyes say everything ;-;. I guess that someone will got shoot at next page – I only hope that Tosch isn’t so maneeriess (Lady Canid) and will find some randm poor Canid recruit.
And where is guest art!? Xd
“Cenolau agreeable”? Ooh, that bodes ill. Especially if Janik and company haven’t made it out of the city yet.
