Chapter 3: Page 89
Whoof, clearly Tosch doesn’t hold the ermehn in very high regards. But you probably already knew that considering most everything he and his brother have already said. Still, it’s not too hard to see where he’s coming from: what makes a career soldier and well-respected diplomat assassinate a high-ranking military official of another kingdom? Personal feelings? PSH. No.
This page also gives us some wonderful play-by-play of Tosch’s letter-writing and wax-sealing. Everything about wax sealing is visually fun, from the adjacent activities such as folding parchment just so, to the actual melting of the wax (and subsequent sealing–which we don’t see here but CLIFFHANGERS am I right??) is a lot of fun to see represented.
That’s all. I just like that Tosch is making a wax seal.
BUT OF WHAT? Who knows? My guess is it’s just an angry-face emoji he’s going to send to somebody he doesn’t like.
Also, a quick update about the Kickstater books: they did indeed arrive at MTT, and pictures are incoming early next week as they’re prepped for shipping! Looking forward to sending out a proper Kickstarter update about that soon.
Speaking of the Kickstarter, here are some more of Leah’s sketch cards for your viewing pleasure! If you were one of the Kickstarter backers who ordered one, you should already have yours in-hand! If you don’t, please let us know at hello(at)westerndeep.net so we can sort all that out.
But without further ado!
I looooove Leah’s takes on all our characters–they look so good! And of course Isa makes her long-awaited appearance since I accidentally skipped her picture last week X)
First! Oh my gallant fluffy general how misinformed you are. But I can see where Tosch is coming from. Kenosh is a high ranking soldier in Lutra so its a possible idea. I don’t think Tosch knows that Kenosh was captured by the Ermehn. If he did he might think that Kenosh was a brainwashed Ermehn agent.
True, he is blinded by his own worldview and doesn’t consider the alternatives. Everything he says makes sense if he had been in Kenosh’s place, so that then must be the truth.
And now he’s already up to sending angrily worded letters, oh woe!
Brainwashed by the Ermehn? But then, that would make him …
“Kenosh: The Manchurian Lutren!”
Sealing wax … sealing wax …
You know, sealing wax is mentioned in the song “Puff the Magic Dragon.” But, as a kid, I had no idea what sealing wax was, so I thought they were singing “ceiling wax.” Which was obviously wax you put up on a ceiling. For … some reason or other. Because.
Another great page, and another great trio of sketches from Leah, leading me to wonder just how many of those *did* she do?
It amuses me that the head dog doesn’t understand free will.
Only because the situation is too perfect. But it would be nice if he’d just consider it. Like, come on Tosch, not even a little?
I guess it’s not well known that Kenosh was a prisoner of the ermehn for two years, or Tosch wouldn’t be so simple-minded in his conclusions. ;)
Just curious: How large would you say the continent is, comparable to a real-life Earth landmass? Australia? The Indian subcontinent? How big have you envisioned it as being?
Good question! We actually had a reader submit a pretty detailed map with hypothesized distances between locations–I’ll post that up next week and go into it a bit more in the post :)
