Chapter 4: Page 19
Quiet, Kenosh! If your attempt at fatherly support continues, you could draw the ears of the enemy! Definitely avoid clapping Bevan’s shoulder again–the reverberation in these mountains could echo for miles!
There was something unintentionally hilarious about the thumbnail here that Rachel picked up on straightaway. This is one of those things where the sliiiiightest adjustments can make or break a moment entirely. If nobody says anything and they just turn around poking their heads out from the rocks looking directly into the frame… it feels funny, doesn’t it? Almost like they notice the reader spying on them through the fourth wall.
Rachel’s fix was to pull that first frame out a bit more, and of course to adjust the angle on the bottom panel so they’re both very clearly looking down at something that isn’t the reader.
I also like the small detail that Bevan goes SSST instead of SSSH, the former being sharper, less loud, and less likely to echo compared to the latter.
In a bit of personal/professional news, we just released the initial chapter of the season finale episode of Guild Wars 2: The Icebrood Saga for any readers who also happen to play, and as part of that release we also went back and added VOICE OVER to the last two episodes, which we couldn’t record initially thanks to the ongoing pandemic.
So while we could have sound effects like the “annoyed eagle screech” in the image above, what you DIDN’T hear was Steve Blum and Cherise Booth’s great lead-in conversation setting it up! Now it’s in there–along with a lot more stuff!
Having the opportunity to write text for and help direct sessions with some of my favorite voice actors in the video game industry is an honor I hope to never take for granted. It really is a trip every time we have the opportunity, and it adds SO MUCH to the experience.
So if you’re a Guild Wars 2 player, I highly recommend going back and replaying Episodes 3 and 4 with the voice acting included. It really helps pull everything together!
NEXT WEEK IS THANKSGIVING IN THE USA
And seeing as how Rachel and I both live in the USA, there won’t be a new page posted up next week. But we will be posting up a special little Thanksgiving image from a guest artist that I think you’ll all enjoy! :)
To all our readers who celebrate it, we hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday. Stay safe, healthy, and do try to relax!
Maybe they saw something so nice that it made Kenosh go ‘damn’, like a salmon the size of a large salmon?
Maybe a salmon the sizeof a small tuna?
The size of a large salmon?! Damn!
I think the paternal kenosha therapy took longer than it should have been. You’d better go back to hardin right now.
I keep forgetting about American prequel Christmas.
Enjoy your huge meal next week, yankees!
Thanks Trees! I’m sure we will, probably too much. XD
Bev’s tail is adorable, It’s so fluffy looking. I reeeaally hope we get to see more Ermehn with winter coats….
Oh no, they’ve spotted us! Salmon Party, disperse!
Dagnabbit, this would have been the perfect year for a salmon party/election joke and I completely forgot about it! Harumph!
Is it me or do those rocks look taller from the front?
I mean, they’re on a slope, so obviously we’re going to see more of the rocks from the front. But that’s because the ground on Kenosh and Bevan’s side is higher. Looking down on them from that side, they don’t look tall enough to hide behind.
Oh well, a minor nitpick. Still a good page, and a good scene.
By the way, Kenosh’s expression in panel 2 of the thumbnail looks like a Baroque painting. The final version works better in the scene, but I sure love the thumbnail face.
Hmm.. I wonder what they’re looking at?
Also, I don’t know if you guys will answer this, but will Crim make another appearance later on? He just has so much potential to improve and it’s made me quite curious!
