Chapter 4: Page 20
While we may be done for the moment with Kenosh and Bevan’s scene, we’re clearly not done with the Sratha-din just yet! It’s time to check in on the others and see what’s up. While Hardin and Ashtor are catching some Z’s, Eira and Rhosyn are catching up on their own little tasks–crossbow maintenance, obviously, and…what is that, some kind of writing? When you’re on the run from an army of murderous soldiers bent on revenge, you gotta find every spare minute you can.
While this is the second time in the story we’ve see the Sratha-din take refuge in a cave during a rainstorm, there’s just something naturally cozy about it in my head that lends to a little breather moment as the world slips in chaos elsewhere. Of course, coziness usually stems from things like–I dunno, a FIRE, or something warm–but in this case, I imagine that overhand is actually somewhat unpleasant. Better than being out in the rain, but look at Ashtor here:
That is absolutely a MOOD.
A hale and hearty welcome to the final month of 2020, everyone! I hope our US readers had a safe and healthy Thanksgiving (I spent mine at home with the family on video chat, but made quite the full spread anyway, enjoying cooking as I do).
This month is generally a tough one for us, as the demands of the season tend to outstrip our ability to focus on Western Deep–particularly for Rachel, as working in retail during the holiday season is particularly stressful with a great deal more hours of work expected. However, our hope is that while the next month+ will see fewer pages released, we still have a great many things to share with you. I have been hard at work on a Western Deep-related side project, for example, that I think many readers will appreciate, and I’m looking forward to sharing more of that with you in the coming weeks.
For guest art this week, a real fun piece from reader FloralFerrets, who believed–somewhat accurately I think–that Bevan is totally the kind of character who would dunk on Kenosh with a giant snowball.
If that looks familiar, it’s because Floral Ferrets was drawing over this particularly hilarious meme image:
You challenge Bevan to a snowball fight, you better be prepared to lose, and lose BIG.
Thank you so much for the wonderful image, FloralFerrets! It’s definitely got me pining for a little bit (just a little!) of winter snow :)
See you all next week!
Received my Volume Two copy and assorted accoutrements on Thursday.
Thank you for the extra effort you clearly put towards making all this stuff both hard wearing and pleasing to the eye right down to the “Western Deep Green” envelopes the cards and stickers were in.
The flag badges seem particularly bombproof.
