So! The shock of the moment has worn off–at least for some of the Sratha-din–and now the time has come for action. Kenosh won’t take this lying down, and Rhosyn is absolutely not the sort to, in a phrase, “put up with this nonsense.” She’s finally got her crossbow loaded and she’s ready to use it.
Whether or not she pulls the trigger is going to be largely up to what Rathik decides to do in the next few seconds. You can almost see the Quantic Dream/Detroit-style prompts showing up over Rhosyn’s head!
How will this standoff end? Well, Rathik doesn’t seem to think what he did was a particularly big issue. Already I’m sure folks can imagine the gulf between his expectations and reality.
Bows and blades aboundin’! And Rathik doesn’t seem to have a single weapon in his paw at the moment, so I think he’d be a fool to reach for one with keyed-up hostiles closing in from all sides.
So, *IS* he a fool?
Guess we’ll find out in the next page or two.
Pages like these recent ones are what keep me coming back to “BWD” week after week after week after ….
I vote for fool… because he thinks stabbing stuff is a solution.
On the other hand, it worked out great for Hardin when he was on the other end of the knife. (I mean several chapters ago, not several seconds ago.)
My reading is that Rathik expected this to go exactly the same way: You kill the #1 tough guy, and now everyone’s following you. Ermehn diplomacy.
Makes sense … but he has so much anger in him it judgment is severly impaired! (also some of that anger is very understandable)
I guess… hostage taking then motive rant… question is how far he gets befor someone shuts him up. *grabs popcorn*
Given how the group has shown their alliance to Hardin before, I have a feeling that the Canid search party nearby will find a dead or wounded Rathik. My only question is who else will get injured in the process.
I have to say, Rhosyn has shown some pretty intense facial expressions over these last several pages.
I’m really intrigued by the dynamics within the Sratha-din. We’ve seen glimpses of it as they reveal more of themselves, but so far the girls have been sort of in the background until now, Rhosyn’s Tamian shoulder-shooting skills notwithstanding. We’ve had some hints so far that Rhosyn and Eira are close in some way, like that time Eira complimented Rhosyn’s sharpshooting, and I’m curious to see more of it. Have they simply bonded over being the only two girls in this Ermehn-Lutren sausage fest? Either way, I love the fact that they’re getting some spotlight now!
Off-topic but does anyone else think Rhosyn’s torso tattoos kind of look like abs?
He’ll have to shoot pretty soon if he’s going to. Bows and crossbows become useless once the string gets wet.
“He’ll?”
Welcome, possibly new commenter!
Archer here!
As far as water-proofness goes the answer is (as is so often the case):it depends. It depends on what the string is made of.
If it’s made of animal hide or guts Rhosyn has a problem but I’m going to guess she knows her own weapon well enough to know she can shoot Rathik through the head right now and never lose a moments sleep over it.
Dramatic de-capeing!
What if Hardin is okay with what Rathik did? It’s the ehrmen way?!
Can wait to find out.
