Chapter 4: Page 76
It’s been nearly two full years since we’ve seen Quinlan and Dakkan in the story, so this is a big moment for us! As Ashtor, Hardin, and Kenosh continue on their way towards Cenolau, we finally get a chance to revisit our main duo as they struggle through the dangerous and unyielding Eastern Deep.
The Eastern Deep, inspired largely in part by mossy, temperate rainforests (like the gorgeous but imposing Hoh Rainforest here in the Pacific Northwest), is a massive and dangerous place within Dunia. Stories of the Eastern Deep run rampant throughout Dunian culture, and its central location within the Four Kingdoms make it a focal point of lore for each culture.
Our favorite Sunsgrovian buds have been destined for a trip to the Eastern Deep going all the way back to the earliest versions of this tale, and this sequence almost became the subject of the chapter image. Needless to say, we’re all excited for what lies ahead.
Hey, are you going to be visiting PAX West in Seattle this weekend? If you are, I’ll be helping out at the Ska Studios booth this Saturday, Booth 1520 on the 4th floor right near the Skybound Games booth.
For folks who don’t know, I helped out with the narrative design and writing on their recent 2D action-RPG, Salt and Sacrifice, which is currently available on PS4/PS5 and the Epic Games Store.
ALSO, Rachel and I will be bringing Beyond the Western Deep back to Rose City Comic Con the NEXT WEEK, starting on Friday, September 9th!
If you’re gonna be in Portland for the show, swing by Artist Alley, Table T2 to check out our collection of books, pins, prints, and more! :)
Great transition page!
But where’s Crim? I was expecting Crim!
He’s a busy guy with a busy schedule, Wing! Believe me, if every POV transition could be to Crim, I’d do it! ;)
It’s the boys! They’re finally back :’]
Aaahh, pretty! That’s funny that the forest is inspired by the PNW because the first thing I thought seeing this is that it looks like my home. XD
Hey! It’s those guys! I know those guys!
Looks like they’re not even dead yet, which is nice.
I like the transition a lot, this is a well composed page.
Aw, thanks Tronn! :) I do love the way Rachel handles our POV transitions!
Im very excited to see what will happen next!
As always, gorgeous scenery!! This last scene looked so beautiful that I convinced myself Hardin was gonna die lol
