Chapter 4: Page 88
Of course the canid patrol here seems to be experiencing a little cognitive dissonance, with Dakkan needing to very politely remind them that the reason they assaulted that canid guard was because he was engaging in a little bit of torture on behalf of General Tosch. But hey, these are all just DETAILS.
We’ve been making some absolutely wonderful progress on those extracurricular Western Deep-related activities I’ve been sharing. Here’s some new updates to whet your appetites:
The “Music of the Western Deep: Volume One” orchestra recording session is taking place in Budapest on June 2nd–less than a week away! We’ll be working with the same orchestra that did our previous Western Deep pieces, so we’re incredibly excited to get all that material back and hear it in its full glory. Don’t forget you can still PREORDER THE ALBUM by going here: https://westerndeepmusic.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders
The cover art for Volume 3 (both Limited and Standard Editions) is ready to go, in addition to our OMNIBUS collection, which includes Volumes 1, 2, and 3 in a single paperback. The cover art for this is so much fun, and Rachel really knocked all of these out of the park. We can’t wait to share them with you as the Kickstarter comes together in the next month or so! We know it’s been delayed a fair bit–but we didn’t want to rush into anything, and we also wanted to make sure we had the full orchestral track for Volume 3’s pitch video before we cut our video together.
We’re in the process of recording official voice over for our War of the Western Deep pitch demo! We’ve just finished recording all of our protagonist’s 300+ lines for the demo, making her the very first Western Deep character to be fully voiced. We’re extremely excited to share this once it’s in the game. We’ve also got a session booked for next week with another wonderful voice actor I’ve worked with in the past to handle our hooded felis scoundrel, which should be a lot of fun to record!
As you can see, Mirren’s portraits and animations aren’t quite finished (she’s in the 2D form of a T-pose here), but we’re just a few animations short of having the full pitch demo ready for “primetime” so to speak. While we’re not planning to release it to the public just yet, we’ll absolutely have some video clips to share so you can see how it’s going.
So hey! That’s a lot of stuff! We’re excited to share more in the coming weeks of course. A lot of stuff is coming together concurrently, between the musical album, War of the Western Deep, and the Kickstarter for Volume 3 and the Omnibus.
Stay tuned for more info here and on our social media, which you can find right here: https://twitter.com/TheWesternDeep
See you next time!
Clem has plenty of reasons to just cooperate with her, to be honest… I think we’re about to discover what he’s truly made of.
Hoping he’s really committed to the new leaf he’s turned!
Clem!? XD
Oh that’s embarrassing. Had Andor on the brain!
Crim has bit of a diplomatic incident in his hands. Technically they’re still allies of the canids, and if he handed over Dakkan and the prisoners then there’s still a possibility to smooth things over and avoid a full blown war.
That’s a good point! He’s really on the spot, huh?
Well the Canid’s already tried to assassinate a Sun grove ambassador, so even if Crim handed all of them to the Candid’s, it may buy them peace for a bit, But I’m sure an all out war is coming. Unpreventable
-Grineer voice-
GET CLEM!
Hey Alex Rachel Jerome i would like to ask you some questions and ask for some advice :
how long does it take you to draw one panel? how do you have time for this? how can i have time for this?
-how to check IRL address?
– one of the main characters in my side comic will have milky white skin, completely black eyes and sharp teeth. What can I do to make him not unpleasant for the readers?
– both worlds in both of my comics are of the type “at first terrible but characters will change it for the better” what to do so that the initial darkness does not discourage the readers?
thank you for reading. I wish you with all my heart that all your projects will be a great success! Good luck
Hi Pevel! I’m going to try and address your questions (for this comment, your past ones, and any potential future ones) all at once–except IRL addresses, which I recommend you don’t go around asking people for! If you have anything Western Deep-related you’d like to share with us, please take pictures or scan it in and send it to our email: hello@westerndeep.net
Any comic project that you work on, regardless of the content, needs to come from a place of desire. You have to *want* to tell the story, you have to *want* to get to know all your comic’s characters, and you *have* to want to make that time investment to create it. Yes, it’s a lot of time, and no, you won’t know right away whether decisions you’ve made are the right ones. But there are no guaranteed right answers or quick solutions to complex problems here–you just have to tell the story you want to tell and gauge your audience accordingly.
We’ve spent years building up a readership for Western Deep and we’re still finding new readers over a decade after starting it. This is a long-term investment in a world of your making, and the stakes are very high once it takes root–the decisions you’ve made up to that point become the building blocks of something bigger than you, so make sure they’re strong, and make sure you’re in it for the long haul.
Best of luck on your comic project!
thanks alex for the answer. regarding this IRL, I got confused with (I think) URL because I think you said before that you use it to check the number of readers if I remember correctly. Have a nice evening
Except for the fact that the general *wants* the war and that, at best, handing over the prisoners and our protagonists would just mean a few weeks of delay before the next manufactured incident… You can’t appease a warmonger forever, and the longer you try, the weaker you’ll be once he eventually drops the charade and invade.
Good points. And add in the fact that this might be the very first time Crim has even heard of Deltrada being attacked (and almost certainly his first notion that Quin and Dak are wanted by the canid) and he can’t very well be thinking in terms of what to do to avoid a war. Remember, he’s not privy to all the information we readers are, and is probably still in the dark about most of it. He’s got the immediate situation in front of him to deal with, and I very much doubt he’ll agree to hand over our two heroes – unless he does it as a ruse to buy time while he mounts a proper rescue expedition.
Crim is oozing with leadership right now still want my boy Quinlan to shine soon ✨️✨️
I love this pictures
First off, was I even aware that an omnibus was in the works? Not sure I was. Exciting!
Secondly… “State your business.” We’re getting No-Nonsense Crim here, and I’m liking what I see. Now let’s just see what comes of it.
And… MUSIC! Yay!!!! Can’t wait to hear it!
What exactly happened to Dakkan while Quin was unconscious?
What exactly happened to Dakkan in Deltrada while Quin was unconscious?
They trimmed his toenails with dull clippers, and then brushed his tail fur backwards. The horrors!
Maybe Dak is ticklish?
Okay, now I’m having “Martin the Warrior” flashbacks.
Dakkan, since when has the truth mattered to the canid, unless it helped them to obtain something they wanted.
