Chapter 4: Page 98
Everybody’s running, but only our tamian scouts truly know which way to run if you want to avoid getting chomped! You’d think it was just “the general opposite direction of the treewalker” but that’s pretty hard to do when there are MANY treewalkers of various sizes and consistent deadliness surrounding you.
For those keeping score, Quinlan’s saved Bevan from certain death for the second time in about as many minutes. Fortunately for Bevan, Quin isn’t the kind of tamian to lord that over anyone–especially when their survival for the next two minutes isn’t guaranteed by any stretch.
Next week thereabouts, I’m planning to upload the “director’s cut” version of the War of the Western Deep playthrough to YouTube, which should provide fans with a good idea of all the little interactions and dialogue possibilities in the game.
I’ll just shout this out again, since it’s fairly new and we know it’ll take a little while to spread, but the brand-new Western Deep online store is up and running at www.westerndeep.bigcartel.com! There’s also a shortcut link right at the top of our main comic site!
We’ll be adding some new items there over time, but for now it’s the best way to get our hardcover graphic novels and Volume 3 Kickstarter merch if you missed out.
We’d love to hear ideas for new kinds of merchandise you’d want to see! Sound off in the comments or ping us on social media (we’re mostly active on Twitter/X @thewesterndeep but also have a BlueSky account @westerndeep.bsky.social!
Quin’s the real MVP today! I think we all owe him a big debt of gratitude.
As for merch ideas, I’d love to see solo flag patches? I’m guessing there’s a good logistical reason why y’all’ve sold the flags in groups though.
Quin’s warning to Bevan of “Not that way” felt like a successful version of Lambert’s warning to Dallas when avoiding the Alien/Xenomorph, where Quin helped Bevan avoid getting fatally jumpscared by a Treewalker. I can only wonder how our Ermehn crew is feeling about their first taste of real life in the Eastern and Western Deep. Maybe they might entertain moving into Sunsgrove for its ‘wonders’?
Treewalkers are kinda this world’s equivalent of Thresher Maws, if you ask me. Makes me wonder if there are particular Treewalkers that are given names by Tamians/Sunsgrovians for their sizes and/or reputations…
