Hey everyone! Bit of a bonus this week (even if it doesn’t see us with a main Western Deep page)!

First and foremost, we’d like to thank Jerome for this week’s wonderful Thanksgiving image featuring Cain and Yurk in hilariously anachronistic Pilgrim hats (probably on their way to the Sand Spiders’ own hilariously anachronistic Thanksgiving dinner). I can think of a few characters from our canon who I wouldn’t mind spending Thanksgiving dinner with, and Cain and Yurk would likely prove fun guests… until they tried making off with the cutlery or something. I wouldn’t put it past ’em.

Quin and Dak would’ve shown up this week, but they were just too darn sleepy after Thanksgiving.

Fall of the Evyn-din Choose Your Own Adventure

(or: “Bevan dies in a lot of horrible ways, whoops”)

So, as a little bonus this week, I wanted to share a slightly cleaned up version of the first Beyond the Western Deep Choose Your Own Adventure story.

Some background — this is a Twine story I wrote a while back that served as a precursor to the Fall of the Evyn-din hiatus story. That short story is canon, but this Choose Your Own Adventure story is not — even if you get the good ending! There are enough differences between this and the short story I wound up writing that the two can’t really exist side-by-side in my head. Some elements here may eventually become canon (some terminology and descriptions, for example), but until they show up in the comic proper or in a proper prose story on the website, don’t worry about ’em :)

With that in mind, enjoy this little romp and do try to keep Bevan alive! The poor guy’s having a pretty rough day.

If the game doesn’t open in a separate tab properly, you can also right-click and Save As to download the HTML file and play it offline.

Also, you’re free to use the Back Button on your browser to undo choices you’ve made, so if you die, that’s a good trick to keep in mind.

Writing in Twine is a lot of fun and I’m sure I’ll take another crack at it someday with another Western Deep adventure. This served as a fun experiment/learning experience, at the very least. If you’re interested in writing similar stories, I highly recommend downloading Twine (it’s free!) and checking out their tutorial. It’s actually very easy to pick up and learn!

We’ll be back with the next page next week!
