Beyond the Western Deep

Merry Christmas to all our wonderful readers and community members! And if you don’t celebrate Christmas, perhaps we can all share in the joy that this is the last Friday of 2020!

Before I continue the post, I need to give some credit where it’s due: the idea for this strip and the script for it are pretty much directly inspired by my love for Arin Hanson and Dan Avidan of the Game Grumps. As the holiday season kicked in, I shared this tweet from 2018 with the Western Deep creative team, remarking that it felt very much like a Cain and Yurk exchange:

Jerome, who specializes in all things Cain and Yurk, agreed. He immediately set to work immortalizing this moment in Cain and Yurk form, completely dialing up the craziness we usually see from these two–to the point where their Predator-esque arm clasp literally changes the art style of the comic into a straight-up Persona 5-esque illustration!

Yesterday, we sent off (hopefully!) the final payments to our campaign logistics and fulfillment vendors for the Volume 2 Kickstarter, marking the official end of our second Kickstarter campaign. We actually started work on the campaign back in April of 2019, nearly a full year before our actual campaign kickoff date. That was to get the animated trailer into production with Knights of the Light Table, of course–knowing we’d need a great deal of headway to get that done in time.

So, now that we’re at the end of 2020, that means we’ve spent the better part of two years creating, starting, running, and fulfilling the campaign! We’re really excited to do another one, but we’ll need a little break before we even get started on what it could be.

Dec 25th! TODAY! Cain and Yurk are celebrating under the MISTLEBRO for the holidays!

Jan 1st! On New Year’s Day there will be a full and official announcement for the side project we’ve been teasing!

Jan 8th! Get ready for a brand new Western Deep prose short story that ties directly into the side project!

Jan 15th! The OFFICIAL RELEASE of the side project!

Jan 22nd! The last week of Wintersdawn will be devoted to a behind-the-scenes MAKING OF post focused on the side project. There will be a lot of great stuff in here, and hopefully gear folks up for the return of main Beyond the Western Deep pages on January 29th.

See you all next week, as we officially enter a brand new year and hopefully get things going on the right foot!
