Pins and Books Update!
Apologies for the lack of a page update this week, but the holiday hours have been a killer! Fortunately, it’s not all bad–as you can see from the update above, we’ve still got some cool stuff to share with you before folks in the U.S. head off for Thanksgiving celebrations.
I mentioned last week that the pins had gone off to the manufacturer for production, but neglected to show any of the development images. I’m fixing that this week. The header image is the manufacturer mockup of Dakkan with final colors and metal finish. We’re going to be using rubber clutches instead of the metal butterfly clutches, as research into the topic yielded the surprising result (to me, anyway) that rubber clutches, despite having no mechanical elements to hold the pin in place, actually appear to be more reliable?
Hey, I learn something new every day thanks to this Kickstarter!
Below, you’ll find the backing board that both pins will arrive on:
And here’s the manufacturer’s mockup of the Quinlan pin. Ain’t he the most adorable thing?
Rachel actually designed the final pins so that Quinlan is just a little bit smaller than Dakkan, to accommodate their in-comic height difference. Dak would probably appreciate that we’re keeping him the taller one. Not that he’d ever admit it.
I’m also pleased to announce that the books have officially gone off to the printer and are officially starting their long (but hopefully not too long) journey through the manufacturing process!
As per the Kickstarter, there are going to be two versions of the book printed: the standard edition hardcover, and the limited edition hardcover. Both are now going to be coming with ribbon bookmarks attached, as we hit our stretch goal and then some, and we’ve got some cool aesthetic additions planned for the limited edition version to make it even more…limited.
The full wraparound cover for the limited edition. The way we have it planned out is: the white will be glossy, the gold will be foil, and the page ends themselves will be colored black, giving the whole book a stark look. I’m really excited to see what PrintNinja can do with these specifications, and we’ll let you know how that goes as details emerge.
That’s all for this week, but have yourselves a wonderful weekend, and if you’re in the U.S., we hope you have a very merry Thanksgiving!
Aww those are way too dang awesome! I wish I was able to help with the kickstarter, but, alas, no money to spare.
Agree with MP above – all looks most spiffy! Great pins (Quin almost looks like he’s wearing glasses – hee!) and a fine-looking limited edition hardcover. And what’s that you say? Glossy white and gold foil on the cover, PLUS black-edged pages? You’re really going all-out on these, aren’t you? Can’t wait to see these in person!
