Song of the Eastern Sands: Page 17
Tutorial level complete! Level 2: The Sunsgrovian Embassy!
Some readers were curious where the story was going next? Well, it’s going right into the heart of the political whirlwind that is Sunsgrove’s embassy — one of many, in fact! There are embassies in Nessa and Gair of course, and also one in Aisling.
I don’t imagine that one in Aisling will be open for much longer.
I’ve also been asked about the timeline and how Song of the Eastern Sands fits into the overall canon of Beyond the Western Deep. To be specific, this story takes place a couple days after the events of Chapter 2 transpired. The ending of this tale won’t align perfectly with where Chapter 3 begins (there’s a little bit of overlap), but the timelines are very close.
For those who celebrated Valentine’s Day, I hope you all had a wonderful one! I’m one of those people who likes it pretty much exclusively for the discount candy you see on the 15th, but I was pleased to see Tracy Butler (of Lackadaisy Cats) get into the spirit of the holiday with a set of the best Valentine’s Day cards ever made.
Jerome wondered how Cain and Yurk spent their Valentine’s Day. The answer was simple:
Ah well, there’s always next year!
For guest art this week, I wanted to share another one of Elson’s amazing pieces of character art. Next up, a certain Sunsgrovian politician who we haven’t seen in a while but is destined to play an important role in the story to come:
We don’t see much in the way of Janik guest art, but I absolutely love it when we get it! Janik looks fantastic here, no doubt caught between council meetings in the Nessian streets as she hurries from her embassy to the capital. Terria and Nessa may be roughly the same size, but Terria has more verticality suited to a Tamian — Nessa is big and wide and flat and hot, so it’s important to slot enough time in for travel to and fro!
Thanks so much for the wonderful artwork, Elson!
JANIK CONFIRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRMMMED more or less We might even find out about her father!
…Depending on how fast the birds travel, they might have already gotten there with the news, and if it hasn’t it will certainly come shortly. Man, I’d give a finger to know what Janik’s thinking of the Aisling situation… although I’m sure we’ll find out shortly.
I’m guessing they aren’t after money this time, not between “time sensitive” and the fact that they’re hitting an embassy. Information, likely, but //what exactly, and who’s hiring them?
I love how excited Beck and Asha look, the wearies of a thief’s life have not yet reared its ugly head I see. Theo looks pretty excited. Have I mentioned I don’t trust him yet? I have to say, this was an interesting turn and I’m excited to see where it goes from here!
IT’S HAPPENING! IT’S HAPPENING!
anyway, I’m looking forward to seeing Janik in the story, and how she looks in Jerome’s style!
I can already tell you how she’s going to look in Jerome’s art style.
Recognizable and awesome.
Oh, and Jeri, we should all take this page as proof that Beck CAN in fact show her teeth and not be terrifying.
yeah…… the nightmares can stop now. :u
That “NANISORE” in the draft just killed me XD It’s too perfect
What does that mean?
I think it has something to do with this http://knowyourmeme.com/memes/nani-sore
Now that I know what that is it’s gonna be stuck in my head for the rest of the day. :o Especially with the 1 hour loop!
Aw, look at all these happy faces off to go steal stuff. Looking forward to seeing this plot unfold!
Those two certainly are enthusiastic when it comes to committing property crime.
Oh, Theo you tea drinking son of a gun! Shame on you for leading the impressionable youth of Nessa astray.
I love this page so much. I love Beck and Asha in the first panel; their faces are just screaming “OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY OH BOY”. And Theo’s expression in the second panel is “I’m so proud of you both. *sniff*”.
And so, after robbing a single merchant, they’re going to go after a political building? Are you sure about this, Theo? And why does it have to be the Sunsgrovian embassy? Do you have something against Tamians?
So apparently Janik is about to have a very bad week. Not only is her office going to get looted, but she’s bound to hear about that absolute mess in Deltrada sooner or later. Thankfully, she strikes me as the type who will endure instead of burst an aneurysm.
Can’t wait to see where it goes from here!
So the plot thickens! But geez, Theo surely has some extreme confidence if he’s going to let them already loot such a high-grade place. Even more, what are they going to steal in an embassy? Visas? (also I love how Rook is popping out in the corner in the 1st panel).
I definitely cant wait for Janik’s potential appearance! Speaking of which I really love Elson’s take on her! not only do the colors look nothing short of amazing, but I dig the hazy background.
Well until Theo can tell us WHAT he wants our thieves to do at the embassy, all we can do is speculate as to the nature of the mission. These guys don’t seem like terrorists, unless that’s what Theo’s been grooming them for, though I don’t think this series is going to go in so dark a direction.
Ah, maybe Janik will be there XD
I love the expressions on the kid’s faces, and especially Theo’s in the second panel!
First time commenting, but I’ve been watching (reading?) BWD since this past summer :) Thank you all so much for many hours of enjoyment!!
Welcome to the group!
Welcome to the Salmon Party!
Welcome aboard! I hope to see you around again!
Oh, hey there! Welcome :)
Thank you!
*spends entire afternoon tracking the start of the salmon shenanigans instead of writing the paper that’s due in a week*
Hey Jerijune, I didn’t know you were from the Philippines too!
Why, yes I am! :)
Also, I’ve been watching your speedpaints a lot lately, and it helped me out a lot when I practice painting!
WELL. Going straight from mercantile thievery to infiltrating an embassy. Theo’s quite confident in them!
But who wouldn’t be, those young ladies are so eager to get to work. XD
Oh dear. Someone needs better opsec.
Nowadays, embassy security can be viewed as a reflection of the strength of the hosting nation. The fallout will be exciting…
