Song of the Eastern Sands: Page 31
The battle continues! The advantage flows between combatants rather quickly, as befitting a fight scene, and we wanted to give each combatant their moment to shine in the story. Of course now that the Canid can see the odds are clearly against him, there’s no telling what will happen next (until next week, anyway).
Well, our first order of t-shirts arrived! Rachel and I also invested in hoodie variations of the shirt to wear at conventions (since we’re both ardently pro-hoodie). The design turned out great, and we ordered them on Hanes tagless t-shirts, offering maximum comfort for all who wear it!
We’ll open them up for online sales in the next few months — we ordered a relatively small initial batch (70 shirts) for the entire summer’s convention season, including Boston Comic Con and New York Comic Con, so we’ll see how the initial order goes. If we wind up needing more shirts, we’ll probably open them up to readers first in a kind of pilot test for online shipping.
For guest art this week, a fun variant of the norm. This is actually guest art of guest art! As some readers may know from material we’ve posted up here in the guest section before, Veigue has been creating a kind of crossover Western Deep tale that has magic and humans and JRPG-styled tropes. Imagine our surprise when we saw Jerijune did guest art based on Veigue’s characters and world! Check it out:
I love the colors and character designs of Veigue’s take on the world of Beyond the Western Deep, and Jerijune’s take on it is just as visually impressive!
Fun tidbit — I might be borrowing one of Veigue’s images of Mirren for a secret little prototype project:
That’s not an official announcement or reveal or anything; I’m just playing around in Unity right now, is all. If it keeps developing, you’ll all be the first to know :)
that’s gonna leave a mark! at least Asha’s bag didn’t spill all the profit– I-I mean “permanently borrowed money”…
also, guest art-ception!
fun fact: the guest art is loosely based on this image: http://vignette2.wikia.nocookie.net/log-horizon/images/3/35/Log-Horizon.jpg/revision/latest/scale-to-width-down/670?cb=20131223015606
good luck with your merch at NYCC! if you the shirts do make it to the store, I’ll order one!
We need to go (western) deeper…
I particularly like the statistics floating screen, they look very nitid and that’s not easy to do at all! Do you use pencils on your drawings? Sorry I never asked before.
I used a separate layer for the stat screen. And I played around with blending options and transparency to get the effect you see right now
Nice action sequence! The Canid is running out of options. Of course, our debatably-heroic trio is going to have some explaining to do soon . . .
The shirts are nice; I will definitely consider buying one if they are put online.
Love how Rook’s foot just comes out of nowhere. (And how we can tell right away it’s his because of the awesomely stereotypical “pirate” pants. :D )
Also, definite yes on the shirts. One of those would be perfect for rock climbing, haha! /And/ it would give me the chance to spread the BWD / SotES love.
“Oww, she hit me in the shins. Alright! That’s it Frank, mission aborted. Haha sorry about that folks…eehh….it was ALL a game! See we Canid tend to get bored during guard duty at our embassy so we…you know we like to uh- break the monotony with playing Hide and go tag and the joke is that we go around and use our blades to tag people! See all those Sunsgrovians aren’t really dead, it’s all just red paint Hahahaha right? ha..ha…anyway that girl really did me in with that kick..oww….so um Frank could you help me mossy back…no? Oh He’s knocked out…*claps hands together* weellll….ok I guess I’ll be going now. Sorry for freaking you all out! Alright, I guess I’ll just be limping back home. See ya!”
In a perfect world, this could’ve been all just a dumb joke.
I just gotta say that whole fan art still has me flabbergasted since I’m really only coming up with those ideas as a means for personal amusement and never figured that somebody else would tend to like the concept (besides just liking the art itself) as well. I know I said it before, but jerijune thanks for the drawing. It seriously made my day :).
And I’m even more surprised that Alex is putting to use my rendition of Mirren! (Which If you’re working on what I think you are working on, then holy crap count me excited!). I’m so embarrassed honestly, almost like an anime fan on prom night. Sorry for the terrible picture quality on that though.
Anyway, the shirts look nice! Do you already have a set price for them btw? Because I’m probably going to have go with the online route for them.
That piece of fanart reminds me a bit too much of Sword Art Online. Anybody else?
It’s actually based on Log Horizon. It’s similar to SAO. it has its fair share of action, but it focuses more on tactics and coexisting with the game world whole looking for a way out of it
*Canid was hit in the shins!*
*It was SUPER EFFECTIVE!*
*CANID ‘s DEFENSE has been lowered!*
*ASHA has been stunned!*
>SWITCH SAND SPIDER MEMBER
Maybe the team should try throwing a pokeball while his defense is down. If they capture him, they’ll have a Canid on their team and the Sand Spider’s will have a full species set!
Professor Clovis would be proud if that happened
Ugh, when are you people going to realize that Clovis is dead!?
.. As dead as Gary’s Raticate *trollface*
Also what’s even going on in the comments anymore lol
Clovis is always with us in spirit.
*screams in realization at what could be an accidental pun*
They wouldn’t have a complete set. Right now there are:
-Beck (Lutren)
-Rook (Polcan)
-Asha (Ermehn)
-Theo (Vulpin)
-Felismum (Felis)
The Sand Spiders would still be without a Tamian.
Hmm true…
Well there’s that Tamian Beck’s helping, maybe they can recruit him. Or capture Janik if she’s around.
Why not capture both?
Gotta cath ’em all! Western Deep!
YOU’VE HEARD IT HERE FIRST FOLKS. JERIJUNE WITH THEIR PUNS. “Clovis is always with us in spirit”. BECAUSE HE’S DEAD SO IT’S FUNNY.
“I used to be an assassin like you. Then I took a Rook to the knee.”
I love the way the Sand Spiders are working in tandem here- which might be more due to Theo’s training than Friendship, but hey- you never know. it might be both.
Hoodies, yess. I’m going to restrain myself from asking about the cloth type- I hope you both have a great time at Comic con, when it comes.
Beck seems. I’m not sure if I’m wording this right but she seems familiar with that one Tamian in the foreground. And she is the one who started this fight in the first place- either she has a hero Complex or there’s a personal investment. I guess we’ll see.
