Song of the Eastern Sands: Page 33
Hi everyone! My deepest apologies for these late page postings — things have been pretty crazy lately schedule-wise, but we’re trying to keep to the schedule. Hopefully we can get back into the swing of things this upcoming week!
This week, the chase continues! I’m particularly fond of the bottom series of panels, which really offer a fun sense of movement you normally associate with free-running and parkour. Fortunately for us, Jerome is a parkour enthusiast himself and can pull off some things straight out of Mirror’s Edge (seriously, I’ve seen videos), so he’s got a wellspring of hands-on experience to pull from for this.
Some great guest art this week from Veigue! It’s been a little while since we’ve seen Quin, Dak, and Kenosh, so I figured this might be timely:
Looks like they stumbled into an ancient temple or dungeon of some sort! Dakkan’s lockpicking skill seems to be okay, and Quin’s rolling a perception check to see if he’ll be able to figure out how exactly they’re going to find the exit. Kenosh is standing guard, thankfully, so at least they won’t be in for any surprises (assuming that the chest Dakkan’s messing with isn’t a Mimic — in which case, tragedy — and hilarity — lie just a few seconds away!)
As always, huge thanks to Veigue for the amazing artwork! I love seeing the characters in your style!
I would like to see those Jerome acrobatic videos!
And, once more, you fail to advertise Veigue’s guest art as Rachel’s work.
Seriously, the way Veigue mimics the original Western Deep style is utterly seamless!
Haha no dude you’re right! I always end up replicating Rachel’s anthro style (only because I have similar style methods and she draws them so cool). Honestly the only ounce of originality you’ll see from me is just the coloring (and maybe the subject matter).
I meant no offense. I didn’t mean to hurt you. Please don’t hate me.
You are still the gift that keeps on giving!
Oh no you’re totally fine! I didnt mean to come off as “offended”! I was just stating facts *I’m so sorry*
Please, don’t eat me with your demon thumbnail!!!
Suddenly I’m reminded of watching countless ferret chasing/playing videos when looking at this. Here’s hoping she has enough strength to subdue the big oaf.
And lol a mimic chest Alex? If they’re anything like their Dragon Quest counterpart, I hope the team has some “instant death” protection equipped on them.
Or the chest could be one of those monster chests from Final Fantasy that try to eat you.
Or those chests in Ultima VIII that explode as soon as you open them.
Haha, yeah, the monster chests are commonly called Mimics — though the ones I’m thinking of are the one-hit-kill traps littered throughout the Dark Souls games :)

Borderlands 2 also has some of those pesky Mimics.
PARKOUR! WOO!
Now that’s out of the way, awesome guest art! The party’s a bit small, but I bet they can clear that dungeon easily, considering their skills and levels. They could use a healer, though
Wasn’t Janik originally supposed to be a healer?
Janik currently isn’t in the same area as the Main Cast party. She’s grinding to increase her Diplomacy and Speech skills in Nessa. They should message her to fast-travel over for support
Get him, Asha!
Still, I’m a little concerned for her. She’s getting separated from the rest of them; here’s hoping that she can catch up to him, deal with him, and get back without anyone paying too much attention to the covered-face Ermehn.
And I love Veigue’s guest art. I’m a sucker for anything with a traditional pencil-and-paper RPG feel, and this reminds me how the BWD universe would be well-suited for such a game.
I love that last panel with the stationary background but dynamic characters. I really hope this doesn’t end badly for Asha- these are probably not the Nessa-variant of Canid that don’t hate Ermehn and she doesn’t know where he’s going :V
This isn’t ending well.
Oh, I love that picture by Veigue! I have in fact missed the Sunsgrovian- and Ex Sunsgrovian- cast. Careful, Dakkan- even if it’s not a mimic some chests damage or poison you if you fail to open them- in which case the best thing to do is immediately pick it again and hope there’s an antidote inside and that you get there before you die. Clearly.
You don’t suppose this is kind of personal for Beck, do you?
