Song of the Eastern Sands: Page 44
Don’t worry folks, Theo’s back to his sarcastic self! You can probably see why he and Rook get along so well. That’s the fun thing about writing up an ensemble cast like this — each of the personalities play off so well against each other that I could just free-write entire conversations between these four (five counting Tabby) and never need to stop to think about what they might say or what they might do while they say it.
Next week, Rachel and I will be at New York Comic Con, Artist Alley table F5! This will be our first NYCC that we’ve tabled, so we’re incredibly excited to show the comic to an entirely new audience that’s never seen it before. We won’t have a page next week, but I’ll make sure you all get a nice post and of course Rachel’s fun art adorning the Artist Alley map!
First up, I know some folks last week were interested in grabbing a download of Nolan Markey’s wonderful “Slip Jig” piece, so here’s an MP3 of that for your listening pleasure!
For guest art this week, a fun piece from Nick Palazzo, who I had the pleasure of tabling next to at Hartford Comic Con last weekend. During a lull in the show, he just whipped out a sketchpad and turned to our Western Deep banner to draw something — and he produced this awesomely grizzled take on Quinlan!
It’s an awesome piece, Nick! Thank you so much for doing it, and I’m looking forward to checking out more of your work at future comic shows!
I do love good sarcasm! Very nice page! It builds up suspense wondering how much more they’re going to banter before they finally leave and close the door (assuming they don’t pop their heads back in for a rebuttal).
Good luck at the comic con! I’m sure you’ll great!
Wow, Quinlan looks so different as a seasoned warrior! The eyes are intent, full of years of wisdom, and a slightly haunted look as though he’s seen too much.
You know, in every single scene we’ve seen Theo he has been sitting there in the same spot drinking his tea. Does his butt ever get tired? Is he in fact part of the interior decoration? I could see Tabby dusting him off and stashing him in the cupboard whenever she locks up for the night.
xD xD
here’s a comic i whipped up http://jeri-june.tumblr.com/post/151187717890/in-honor-of-this-weeks-comment-section-gag-you
Theo is very important for the tavern’s feng shui.
When the Canid capture Theo in his sleep and shove him in a closet, he won’t panic at first because that’s how he’s used to waking up.
welp, back to plotting and tea drinking. i can imagine Theo and Rook having a little debate and roasting each other over something that happened like… 5 minutes ago.
oh, and nice guest art! maybe that’s how Quin is gonna look when he reaches Kenosh’s age… and hopefully won’t get traumatized the same way he did by then, but those eyes just have that “I’ve seen things” look. he still looks badass though.
“. . . no pressure, though.”
I’m quite excited to see what adventures these two (three?) get up to outside Nessa.
Oh my….that Quinlan! That has to be the manliest looking squirrel I’ve ever seen. I bet Crim would’nt want to mess with him now.
Jerome I hope you understand that your coloring we’ll always be fantastic. It’s pretty weird, but I’ve been loving the past couple of pages due to the yellow, grayish light greenish hues you’ve been using. It makes the tavern look so lovely to me.
Every new page of this comic I read I can’t help but entertain the idea that it would make a great Fire Emblem styled game. I guess I’ll have to draw a picture of it sometime when I can find the time. If you never played a Fire Emblem game here is a link to my favorite one. Enjoy! http://emulator.online/gameboy/fire-emblem-8-the-sacred-stones/ (Bout time I posted a comment after being here for a year.)
Thanks for joining in on the comments, CrazyCatz! I actually love the Fire Emblem games and could totally see a BtWD-style version of one! Jerome’s mentioned something like that as well (more Final Fantasy Tactics, but essentially the strategy-RPG vibe). Aaah, if only games were easy to make :)
I love the positioning of Theo’s hands as the page flows- it adds the feeling of movement to the page, at least for me.
If Rook and Beck are leaving Nessa I hope they aren’t going too far without supplies, or at least maybe a weapon- I’m pretty sure Rook picked up a fallen weapon a couple pages back, and he might not get that chance again in the upcoming almost-certain combat they will face.
Ha, that Quin looks like he’s been through some crap. I really like your use of natural lighting this page, Jerome,
Gosh, I hope you both have fun at comic con! Knock ’em dead.
