The Abyssal Dunes: Page 03
Oh man, I get it, Cain. I get it. Those ermehn are so hard to keep up with when they’re parkouring all over the place. But it could be worth it for all the potential spoils hidden within this old, abandoned city in the middle of nowhere! Oooor those frescos on the wall could be hinting at something much more menacing. Lots of places in this ruin likely haven’t been touched by light in generations. Maybe Yurk’s onto something?
Or maybe he’s just laying into the spoops! Wouldn’t put it past him. He’s a bit of a scalawag, that Yurk!
Not much in the way of news this week, but I did want to take the opportunity to remind readers that the Ringo Award nominations close in just a couple weeks! So if you haven’t voted yet, please take a few minutes and fill out a ballot (right here: bit.ly/ringos2019)
And please do consider Beyond the Western Deep as you’re filling in your nominee for “Best Webcomic” :)
For guest art this week, a different kind of guest art that we haven’t had in a long while: GUEST MUSIC! Yes, you read that right–we’ve got a brand new piece of guest music from Western Deep composer and collaborator Nolan Markey!
In Nolan’s own words:
“I’ve realized that at this point, I haven’t written anything for the the Ermehn/Sratha Din/Hardin. I really love the bleak/brutal kind of sound of the Viola da Gamba – I feel like it does a good job mirroring their austere existence.”
I couldn’t agree more! I absolutely love the bleak, grim sound of this. It feels vast and empty and slightly menacing in an alien and impersonal way. It fits the ermehn existence very well, and I love this instrument as a core concept in representing them musically. Thank you so much for your incredible work, Nolan! I can’t wait to hear more down the road :)
Have a good weekend, everyone!
Oooh, that’s a horror moment if ever I saw one.
I like Yurk’s design, he looks more lithe and ermine-like than before. Quick noodly boy!
Yurk = a real noodly boi
I don’t know about you, but I think Yurk is foreshadowing some nasty scares.
Also, props to Nolan for that amazing music track! It really does exude some themes that I’d attribute to the Sratha-din or the Ermehn situation in general.
Yurk is so adorable in that last panel!
That fresco looks like it might be a warning about a giant carnivorous worm.
Or a snake-rabbit, I can’t tell. I wish I could check out that ruin. Preferably with a rope, a big stick, and, of course, Cain and yurk. :)
Let’s hope they remember to walk without rhythm…
I was wondering, roughly how old are Cain and Yurk? I know we don’t know Yurk’s exact age, but if I remember correctly he is around the same age as Cain… but I forget how old Cain is.
Also, Smug Canid, that gravatar is awesome.
Thanks, man! I spent literally an entire day trying to get it to work (I am not good with technology) but hey presto, I’m here now. I’m pretty sure someone here is called Lady Canid, too?
Looks like a Tremor or a Centipede of some sorts. Ooohboy.
O.O
Seems hanging out with Yurk can be an exhausting experience. And somehow Yurk manages foreshadowing while looking so innocent.
Does that mean I should be more scared?
You NEED to be more scared ^^
