Lots of fun updates this week on the Western Deep front! First and foremost, our snackable retro-inspired adventure game, Wintersdawn in the Deep, is now officially available on Steam for Windows PCs and the Steam Deck console!

You can buy the game (or our special bundle featuring the OST and V1+V2 of Beyond the Western Deep in PDF format) by clicking the image above or following this link:

As somebody who’s had a few games released on the platform over the years but never went through the process myself, it was a humbling experience going through the approval process, building out the store page and assets, and also going through the process of adding enough content to make it feel worthy of your $2.99 ($2.54 with the launch sale).

But this isn’t all we’re working on right now, by any stretch of the imagination. As mentioned in previous posts, we’re hard at work building out the last remaining materials we need to kick off our Beyond the Western Deep: Volume Three Kickstarter campaign in January. That’s not just the covers and bonus art sections for the book, but also the new enamel pin designs (these are always fun) and a little something we’ve been planning for a while…

A SOFTCOVER OMNIBUS.

That’s right, we’re examining the feasibility of this next Kickstarter being a bit of a twofer: not only would it have the standard and limited edition hardcovers for Volume 3, but it would also feature a brand-spanking-new 300+ page softcover collection combining Beyond the Western Deep Volume One, Volume Two, and Volume Three in a single book.

BUT WHY WOULD YOU DO THAT?

When we first started doing conventions, having a bunch of hardcover books was awesome. But as we’ve continued to print more and more books, it’s clear that we simply can’t carry a full complement of hardcovers to suit every situation. Shipping them around is expensive, storing them is rough, and if we over or under-estimate how many we need for a show, we can be stuck in a bind. And if a new reader approaches us and loves the idea of the story, the cost of jumping in only increases with each new book we release.

SO, the omnibus is an attempt to rectify that! We’ll still carry hardcovers of course, but instead of forcing new readers to buy three, four, five, etc. hardcover books, they’ll only need to buy one omnibus softcover.

Anyway, we’re just beginning to explore pricing this out, but our goal would be to try and have some of them ready for this upcoming convention season. We’ll see if we can make it!
