Any medical professional would probably tell you that getting one hour of sleep isn’t a healthy way of going through life, but in this particular scenario I think even the most hardline of doctors would realize that anything is better than nothing when you’re trying to stay on your feet during a kingdom-wide pursuit.

Quinlan grew up in the tamian scouts of course, so he probably has a pretty good idea of where his pursuers are in relation to them. If he says they’ve got two hours for sleep, he’s probably hedging his bets.

We’ve got some really fun Kickstarter/merchandise updates to share with you! First and more importantly, Rachel received some book mockups that gave us an idea of what our final product would look like. The results did not disappoint. Check it out:

The book on the left is the gloss-finished paperback edition that was published back in 2016. The book on the right is the sample cover from our printer. The matte finish on the hardcover is a lot classier I think!

And here’s the limited edition cover up against the limited edition cover we did for Volume One:

The gold foil reflection is a little hard to consistently read in still images, but we can say that the foil we’re using for Volume 2’s limited edition is a shade darker than the one we used for Volume One. I love love love the design that Rachel came up with the cover of the limited edition–we even had some t-shirts made with it that we were planning to sell at Emerald City Comic Con before that was cancelled! We’re hoping to save them for our next convention appearance… whenever that is!

We also have updates on the nation flag iron-on patches! We received some images of finished samples from our vendor:

PRETTY COOL RIGHT??

We’re really excited to get this set into our backers’ hands, but if you missed out on them, you can still order a set by pre-ordering them from our BackerKit store right here: https://beyond-the-western-deep-volume-two.backerkit.com/hosted_preorders

Last but not least: as many readers know, my day job is as a Lead Writer on the Guild Wars franchise at ArenaNet, currently helping out on the Icebrood Saga seasonal story content on Guild Wars 2. This upcoming week, on July 28th, an episode that I wrote entitled Jormag Rising will be released!

Writing in this particular fantasy universe is actually a lot of fun, and I hope that folks enjoy the story in this one! I know I had a blast writing it!
