See, Bevan’s whole thing is he’ll try to pick your spirits up and make light of a situation (you can actually see in the thumbnail that the original direction Rachel was considering for the first panel there was a wry grin) but he’s also pretty emotionally intelligent for a guy who really enjoys stabbing canid with knives and other pointy objects.

He doesn’t exactly need a well-honed spidey sense (or whatever the ermehn equivalent is) to see that there’s some serious backstory to this particular point of Dakkan’s backstory.

We’ve talked a little in years-past about the lutren relationship with the sea–that they anthropomorphize it both as their benefactor and that which punishes them for their hubris. The Sea (capital S when they’re talking about it like this) can give, and the Sea can take. For most lutren, it is simply a fact of life that one lutren may be chosen to perish one day over another standing mere feet away…but for Dakkan, it’s a lot more than a philosophical question. And of course the long-term effects of this moment have echoed throughout the ongoing relationship between father and son.

Our guest art this week is brought to you by the letter E!

Actually it’s from one of our wonderful readers and community members, E, who drew up this really neat map of all the Four Kingdoms of Dunia. Check it out!

I absolutely love the hand-drawn feel, and the Middle Earth-esque marking of the topographical details. It really is a wonderful interpretation of the map, E! Thank you so much for doing this and sending it our way!
