Well, that’s an unfortunate turn of events now, isn’t it? I suppose if Rook had been able to get his message out, Theo and Asha might have been able to launch some kind of rescue operation to rescue the people that were sent in to rescue the people…but now?
Now it’s just our captured quartet, a bloodthirsty canid patrol, and a whooooole lot of desert where anything could happen.
Do you hear that? It sounds like a NEW KICKSTARTER is approaching!
We know that it’s been a little while (well–over two years, actually) since we’ve launched our last Kickstarter! There were a lot of questions internally among the team about what the next project should be. Is it Chapter 3? Song of the Eastern Sands? Or maybe we try something completely different that’s beyond the usual sphere.
Well, we decided to try for something that’s completely different. You saw us experiment with different Western Deep-related projects in the itch.io release of the Wintersdawn in the Deep point-and-click adventure game.
Across all of our Kickstarter projects, the Knights of the Light Table animation, and Wintersdawn though, there’s been a common thread: THE MUSIC. Specifically, Nolan Markey’s incredible themes and explorations of our world, brought to life by a full orchestra and a suite of talented soloists.
This passion for the world of Western Deep helped to inspire our next Kickstarter campaign: a 30 minute long music album that takes listeners on a journey through the world of Beyond the Western Deep!
It will be written by Nolan Markey, who has composed music for Star Wars: The Clone Wars/Rebels/The Bad Batch and orchestrated music for the immensely successful Critical Role: Legend of Vox Machina animated series. It will then be performed by the Budapest Scoring Orchestra, along with key soloists who we’ve worked with on previous Western Deep projects.
Our expected launch date is mid-to-late summer, and you can bet one of the limited rewards will be a physical vinyl record with cool original album art :)

Well, we can always hope they shot the wrong bird? (Srsly, how easy would it be to target a movie aerial object in a sandstorm? These canid have suddenly grown far more competent than they’ve come across in the past.)

Very cool idea for a KS campaign! It’s true that Nolan has indeed done much great music for this comic, but a whole half hour of it? A true embarrassment of riches indeed! Let’s hope this comes off as well as the previous “BWD” campaigns, because I’d really like to hear what he can do with such a large sonic canvas!

I doubt the canid will simply take them out into the desert and leave them there, at least not without planning to kill or cripple them first; too many uncertainties. They’d want to wrap up these loose ends far more tidily. I rather suspect it’s up to ol’ Eye Liner and her questionable associates to step in and save the day now. If so, that should be fun to watch!
Still not 100% sure Eye Liner was not the one who grassed on them in the first place. If she’s an enemy we can only hope it’s a “by no hand but my own” kind of relationship.
