As much as Beyond the Western Deep is about world-changing events and massive inter-kingdom political conflicts, the true meat and potatoes of the story–for me anyway–is how these events affect our core characters. Seeing the weight of the previous days’ events build up to the point where Dakkan is cursing at the top of his lungs in the previous page is one thing, but it also gives us this nice moment between best friends, and you can almost imagine this dynamic reaching back to the earliest days of their friendship–with Quinlan calming his friend the moment any kind of wound materializes.

Of course, the ominous ending panel here and Quinlan trailing off is…well, we’ll see what that’s about soon enough.

You might have noticed that this page came two weeks after the last one. This was actually planned, and we’ll be adopting a similar staggered page schedule in the months ahead.

Truth be told, we have quite a few Western Deep-related projects in the works–and with our day jobs, the ensuing crunch of the Fall/Holiday period, and the extent of the work on our other projects before us, we decided it was the best way to make sure we were both continuing the story of Beyond the Western Deep while also building the projects that we hope will help grow the world and its audience.

These projects obviously include the upcoming Kickstarter for Volume 3, but there are plenty of other things we’re focusing on as well, including that long-in-the-works prose PDF that backers from our Volume 2 Kickstarter are still owed (we haven’t forgotten!), and a follow-up game to last year’s Wintersdawn in the Deep. We’re also looking at ways to bring Wintersdawn to Steam with a few minor updates.

So yeah, long story short, we’ve got a lot planned! Stay tuned to our Twitter account (@TheWesternDeep) for the latest updates. See you next time!
