Chapter 4: Page 78
As much as Beyond the Western Deep is about world-changing events and massive inter-kingdom political conflicts, the true meat and potatoes of the story–for me anyway–is how these events affect our core characters. Seeing the weight of the previous days’ events build up to the point where Dakkan is cursing at the top of his lungs in the previous page is one thing, but it also gives us this nice moment between best friends, and you can almost imagine this dynamic reaching back to the earliest days of their friendship–with Quinlan calming his friend the moment any kind of wound materializes.
Of course, the ominous ending panel here and Quinlan trailing off is…well, we’ll see what that’s about soon enough.
You might have noticed that this page came two weeks after the last one. This was actually planned, and we’ll be adopting a similar staggered page schedule in the months ahead.
Truth be told, we have quite a few Western Deep-related projects in the works–and with our day jobs, the ensuing crunch of the Fall/Holiday period, and the extent of the work on our other projects before us, we decided it was the best way to make sure we were both continuing the story of Beyond the Western Deep while also building the projects that we hope will help grow the world and its audience.
These projects obviously include the upcoming Kickstarter for Volume 3, but there are plenty of other things we’re focusing on as well, including that long-in-the-works prose PDF that backers from our Volume 2 Kickstarter are still owed (we haven’t forgotten!), and a follow-up game to last year’s Wintersdawn in the Deep. We’re also looking at ways to bring Wintersdawn to Steam with a few minor updates.
So yeah, long story short, we’ve got a lot planned! Stay tuned to our Twitter account (@TheWesternDeep) for the latest updates. See you next time!
Greetings! I hope that those projects also include a Patreon, Ko-Fi, or some other subscription based support platform that allow readers to throw you some cash on a regular basis. The store is nice, but is not really designed for that kind of thing. Thanks!
Absolutely loving all the expressions on this page, especially Quin’s in panel four. It’s been too long without these guys!
I like this moment between two friends after the previous big and dire events. It’s quiet and simple, and feels very genuine.
The way Quin instantly jumps in, knowing what to do—and how Dak’s frustrations melt away seeing his friend come to his aid… Ah! I love these two!
Yes, but Quin’s poor shirt! *rippp*
Giant carnivorous centipede in 3…2…1. ;)
Nasty place to get cut. Over the biceps, over the triceps, and under the deltoids.
Not me realizing that there’s now a high chance Crim is going to show up later in the chapter
My favorite underrated character ngl
For whatever reason, I can’t imagine what Quinn saying “oof” would sound like in my head.
Where is the new page? What is going on here?
Patience, grasshopper. There’s Wintersdawn, the upcoming Kickstarter for Volume 3, and Music of the Western Deep. I’m sure their sentiment would echo the immortal words of Prince Humperdink when he said: “I’m swamped.”
Hi Jakub! I mentioned in the post that we’ve got quite the full schedule going into the holiday season–and these few months (specifically Late October through Early January) have always been rough for us because of our real-life obligations.
We do have a lot of different Western Deep-related projects going on, but to make them all happen, we need to stagger out the pages a bit more. Definitely keep an eye on our Twitter (https://twitter.com/TheWesternDeep) for the most up to date information!
Hey Alex. First I want to apologise you for my behaviour. As one of oldest wiewers of your project, I just felt in that moment little confused, and I lose for moment my patience. Also I don’t use Twitter, or Tomblr, so that is why I didn;t know about reasons of this unexpected break in page posting. Thanks for the answer, and explain, and I am sorry one more time. I hope that in future will be possibility to support BWD project on patreon.
I, too, am looking forward to the next comic, hopefully this year, and for regular updates to resume next year. :3
Just give him some Sweet Madame, should be healed right up (RIP Timmie’s pigeons)
